Tommy freezes. That’s…that’s Techno’s voice.
Why is Techno doing this after so many years? They’re not nearly close enough to be playing pranks on each other!
No, Tommy grits his teeth. This can’t be Techno
“What the fuck?” he squawks, whipping around. But every time he does so, Techno leaps behind him with alarming agility, only a flash of unbraided brown hair being seen. “Who the fuck are you!?”
“You tell me you don’t know your prince?” his brother’s voice rings out from behind him, the ice in his words sending shivers down Tommy’s spine, even though the weather is noticeably warmer than his homeland.
Techno walks in front of Tommy, gaze cold and calculating, not a single drop of familiarity in his crimson eyes. The blonde resists the urge to shrink under the judging look.
“The fuck you mean prince, Techno?” he demands, even though merely moments ago he decided that the owner of the voice isn’t his older brother. “Is this a sick joke?”
or, Tommy falls into a hole and ends up in a mirror dimension. Nothing's gonna go wrong.

Summary
Once the shower turns on it all hits him, he left his family, or more his family left him, and now he’s stuck staying with his best friends because they're all he has left of any type of family, well he could say that Techno was okay. But other than that he had no one.
His sobs were quiet enough not to be heard over the water but Tommy still covered his mouth in a vain attempt to quiet himself further, his family did always say that he was too loud.
By the time he felt his skin was clean, he had rubbed it red and the water had gone cold. He wrapped a towel around himself and tried not to look in the mirror at all the scars that he had gained from his three years of being a vigilante. He opened the door to find Ranboos clothes outside along with a pair of new boxers he quickly slipped into the clothes that engulfed him.
Or Tommy's family hates what he does and tries to stop him.

Summary
It's strangely colder in the house now. Without Tommy inside or at least the knowledge that he isn't there.
He just hopes they find him soon, so he can say a million sorrys in one breath even if it's not enough.
He stops before his room, the door closed and inconspicuous. No one would know the room behind belonged to a small ten year old unless you looked inside. Wilbur contemplated going in.
But he stops himself, knowing all he'll find is an empty room and he'll just feel worse.
He starts to turn away, thinking of occupying his mind when he stops after hearing a noise inside the room.
Wilbur perks up, is that… Did Tommy come back?
Wilbur has his hands on the doorknob before he can think and opens the door.
"Tommy!" He expects to see his small ten year old little brother sitting on his bed or playing with Henry, his pet cow or reading his books.
But he's surprised to see in the dark room, a much bigger figure.
He blinks at the person and they turn to him, their eyes meet his and his breath hitches.
Those aren't the eyes of a human.

It’s why it hurts so much now, in a house so close to being his home, he could feel it brush past his fingertips as it crumbled, leaving behind a hurt, angry 17 year old.
He was standing in the living room, back against the fireplace, Phil opposite him on the sofa. Techno was standing by the door, almost out of it, and Wilbur was sitting on a chair to his right. It was a ‘family meeting’ and he knows what that means, he’s not a fool, wasn’t born yesterday. They have something to tell him, and deep down he really hopes that this is not where he thinks it's going, that he’s assumed wrong.
“Tommy, we want to adopt you.”
…
And just like that the world stopped.
Or,
They didn’t listen to him, he told them, begged them not to and they didn’t listen. Tommy lost a family he really wanted after they went back on a promise.

Tommy was curled up against the wall of the school where the generator provided at least a small amount of protection from the cold.
He shivered.
Tommy's hands and toes were numb with cold, and his golden hair was coated with frost. His breath came in small puffs of cloud as the frigid air sapped the heat from his body.
Wilbur had promised to pick him up, but that was almost an hour ago. Had he forgotten him? Honestly Tommy wouldn't be too amazed if he had. Wilbur, although he could be nice, didn't really like Tommy.
He debated going into the school. A couple teachers and staff members were still there,. Maybe Tommy could ask Miss Puffy to phone Phil for him. No. Wilbur would be here any minute, and if he went inside, Tommy might not notice if he drove up. Wilbur would be so mad if that happened.
So Tommy lay where he was, and waited.
And waited.
And waited
But no one came.
So Tommy burrowed farther into his thin coat and slept, as he shook violently with cold

Contrary to popular belief, the town of Essempi did not like dragons.
Most towns had normal pests, like rats or mice or raccoons or roaches, the list went on. Most were content with their lives with their normal pests as their company.
Trust the gods to give Tommy’s town the dragons. The majestic, powerful, fearsome creatures; vicious and territorial, that were the vein of everyone's existence.
There was a bloodthirsty fight almost every night, where the town had to scramble to protect whatever crops and livestock they could protect, before attacking the oncoming dragons with their weapons.
Not that Tommy got to do any of it.

Summary
They’re coming home tomorrow. For Tommy’s birthday.
Technically, tomorrow isn't his birthday, but that's why they're coming. It's in a few days.
It’s funny, almost-- Phil doesn’t even know about it, because Phil forgot it was even coming up. Tommy’s birthday is right after Christmas. The unfortunate time when the excitement towards a holiday is gone, but the cold stays, lingering in hallways and in untouched picture frames. Phil’s caught up in his own life, thinking about the two sons that are touching various corners of the world, instead of the one sitting in the corner right down the hall.
Tommy knows it was supposed to be a surprise, but on one of the rare occasions that he was the one to call them, he heard Wilbur slip up behind Techno’s louder voice. After that, they spilled, rather excitedly, all the details of their spontaneous trip. They said they missed home. Missed him.
They haven’t been home-- for birthdays, for Christmas, for anything at all-- in four years.

“Tommy? What’re you doin up at…” He glanced at his laptop screen, shining brightly in the dark room, squinting to make out the time. “3.45am? Theseus?” He looked worriedly down at his 12-year-old brother. Techno was definitely not the best person to deal with this. Crying had never been his forte, it had always been more Phil’s thing, or even Wilbur’s.
He really should not be doing this at 3.45am on a school night, or at all, as he was only a year older than Tommy himself. This should be Phil, hugging Tommy and wishing him goodnight, wiping tears from his eyes as Techno slept peacefully just down the hall. But evidently Phil had failed in that aspect of parenting as well.(set in the same universe as "only thing we share (is one last name)", and is a prequel-ish. Might make more sense if you read the other in the series, but not required.)

"Did you know I saved all the letters I wrote to you?" Tommy asked his family as he skimmed through another one of the papers, ignoring his father's question. A bitter smile laying on his face as he didn't hesitate to throw the letter on his hands into the fire.
"Theseus, what-?" Techno tried to ask as Phil let out a gasp. Wilbur just stood there like he was frozen.
"When you took me in, I was certain you were mine, well at least I thought so," the boy said as he glanced at his family. His once blue eyes were now a stormy grey as he stared with tired eyes.
The men simply stood there, frozen as they watched Tommy grab another letter from the thick pile at his side. There was easily more than a thousand letters next to him, and they didn't know for how long he'd been burning them.

Wilbur had barely drifted off before he heard the familiar voice, slowly stretching downwards as two figures arrived in his view.
‘Look, there he is!’
‘Tommy!’ Wilbur’s eyes snapped open at the second voice, startled so much that he almost jumped out of the hybrid’s arms. He gradually relaxed again once he examined the taller figure, his green and white bucket hat contrasting the solid grey of his wings.
‘Phil, you scared him!’ The teen exclaimed, holding him tighter as the realisation that Wilbur finally knew his name settled in.
‘Tommy, he has a name tag...’
‘I know? His name is Soot apparently.’
