Yeah, Dennis admits to himself, he’s down pretty bad.
He’s certain that the fishing trips his brothers took with their dad didn’t have this additional complication – that of the man taking them being so hot they’d want to cry. Trinity’s comment, ‘daddy wants to take you to the woodshed,’ bounces around in Dennis’s head.
-Robby takes Dennis out on a fishing trip. Neither of them expected it to end this way.

“Somewhat?” Robby crossed his arms.
“You’re just…” Dana grabbed both of his shoulders as if to make an example out of him, “Touchy.”

Maybe he wanted to prove a point. Prove Robby was not some kind of infallible paragon. Prove he deserved this, that he deserved to be whispered about.
Still, it wasn’t planned. Dennis couldn’t afford to be a jealous type- he knew, deep down, he couldn’t compete with them, the litany of girls and women that Robby politely declined on a daily basis, even the ones he eyed a touch too long. It was a strange dichotomy, in a way, believing himself undeserving of Robby, of all people, and considering himself the only one worthy of him.

Usually, David knows when Jack gets home from work and will meet him out in the living room so they can have dinner together- usually leftovers- and bitch about all the weird shit they had to deal with in the twelve-odd hours they’ve spent away from each other. Jack guesses that David must have been distracted with– yeah, and that’s why he didn’t realize Jack was home, and why he must have thought he was alone in the apartment, and Jack can’t think of anything aside from David when he shuts the door to his room.
Turning in a small circle, Jack rubs his face and groans. “What the fuck,” He mutters to himself, then shakes his arms out and hurries to his dresser. “What the fuck,” He repeats as he pulls his work shirt over his head, slipping into a more comfortable crew neck, and he debates for a long moment whether he should just– should he change out of his jeans? “If it was me… I’d at least go for that dinner. But I’m not you. You need to do what’s best for you, Dennis.”
There it is again, his name from Robby’s mouth. It makes his attention linger, still staring at Robby’s face. Dennis is once again overwhelmed with the urge to just bury his face in Robby’s neck and pretend the world doesn’t exist, but that’s not the grown up thing to do. He squeezes his eyes shut for a second, rubs his temples with his fingertips as Robby continues, “Carry your patients with you as much or as little as you like. Find your balance. But remember that you’re human.”
Dennis opens his eyes to the countryside fading away and the city bleeding in. He knows Robby is right. That’s what he needs: balance.
In his last year of med school, Dennis learns to let go of the guilt that plagues him.
