Summary
Jack Fenton likes to tell his kids stories about his childhood, sometimes. Likes to talk about his college years, likes to talk about the vastness of the Fenton family, likes to talk about the little cabin in the woods he didn’t leave until he was twenty years old. It’s something of a hobby of his, to reminisce.
But like every parent, there’s just a few things that go unsaid. A secret name, a secret origin, some lost fragment of a past lightyears behind him. His children have inherited near nothing of it, he’d thought, and perhaps it was best they never know.
And then he discovers his son can fly.
(Or: Forty years ago, Jax-An crash landed in Earth’s atmosphere. Five minutes ago, Jack Fenton realised he might have passed more onto his son than he’d first thought.)

Sonic wakes up in Eggman’s base after being knocked out for who knows how long, fully prepared to kick robot butt into next week and bust his way out—but, this time, the doctor doesn’t march in with a speech about his latest evil scheme on his lips. This time, there’s no threats, no fanfare; Eggman keeps quiet hands behind his back, and a weird look sitting snug on his face.
Because he has the infamous Sonic the Hedgehog captive in his base right now, he says, but there’s a blue streak running excited circles around familiar figures just outside.
(There’s someone out there, pretending to be him, pretending to know his friends. And he doesn’t even know why.)

The thing about being a global hero whose entire schtick is running faster than the eye can see is that, well, people don’t actually see an awful lot of him. They know his name, they know what he’s done, and they recognise the iconic blue blur he leaves in his wake—but, just walking down the street, you don’t expect every single blue Mobian you see to be the one that routinely fights off giant mechs and ancient deities.
Really, how were they supposed to know who the guy actually was?
(Or: Five times Sonic invoked the Tony Hawk phenomenon, and one time someone recognised him.)

He freezes when Jason's eyes snap up, and he stumbles back, widening the gap between them. Bruce doesn't try to approach him again, his heart in his throat.
"You're not my dad." Jason mumbles, and Bruce watches as the boy's pupils shrink, and he looks horrified at something Bruce can't see. He's staring right at him, but for some reason, it feels as though Jason is looking through him.
The words sting like acid, and Bruce ignores the crushing of his lungs, "I… okay. Okay Jason."
"No, no, Bruce." Jason sounds frantic, and he pulls at his hair, "You're not my dad. You're different."
(Bruce is late to patrol, Jason freaks out. And finally, they talk — better late than never, after all.)

He had been a successful CEO for two years, a successful (if not particularly well known) super hero for longer, and an unsuccessful part of the Wayne family for a shining six months. But, things were hard and were only getting harder. He realized that if something didn't change, he was going to die sooner rather than later.
So, he left Gotham and he hoped that nobody would come looking for him. But, for some people, Tim isn't as easy to forget as he might have hoped.

Loved this fic so much!! Honestly recovery stories that just focus on the day-to-day of it all are some of my Favourites; so happy I found this one!! The quiet reflection of it all reminds of Wild Geese by Mary Oliver and it makes for such an amazing fic!!
