Summary
The clouds above move slowly across the ever-blue sky. The cold wind blows a gentle breeze, shaking the debris on the ground. There is a pool of crimson on the ground next to the boy now and he realizes that he is dying. Yanqing groans and strains his body to lay on his back and face the sky. He can see the wings of the birds flapping as they fly by. He can especially hear their song, closes his eyes, and imagines it is a lullaby.
Or, Yanqing almost dies fighting Blade and Dan Heng, and realizes what it means to know death.

Saliva fills his mouth. His stomach churns now as it did back then, trepidation warring with a longing so sudden and fierce that Dan Heng can’t think of anything else. This feeling—it can’t be anything else.
But then Jing Yuan says, “It’s been a long time, old friend”—and the candlelight in Dan Heng’s chest hisses out.

“Stelle,” he says, and then it’s like all of his strings are cut at once. He falls.
