People have been disappearing and turning up dead under suspicious circumstances in Tokyo, and an unlikely team of ghouls is brought together along with the reader to solve this mystery. Along the way, Ren Shiranami must confront his fears and uncomfortable past. The reader must decide if it's better to suffer in love or move on, and whether it even matters in the face of your impending curse transformation. Sho Haizono and Haku Kusanagi try not to die in the process. -

A young man wakes in a cart with no memory and no idea how he wound up a prisoner to Imperial forces. His name is James Herondale. For a while, that's all he truly knows. That is until he meets Alastair Carstairs, the only person he can remember from a life before all this.
Three months before James' arrival, on the 17th of Second Seed, another young man appeared stumbling out of the woods north of Riften and into a Khajiit camp. He was gravely wounded, delirious, and calling out for a sister of whom the scouts found no trace. When he is healed, he introduces himself as Esfandiyār. For a while, he could remember nothing, save for the demon with gold eyes who visited his nightmares each evening. Eventually, a name came to him: James Herondale.
Whatever had happened to Esfandiyār and his sister, he knew it was James' fault. It was only a matter of time before the demon was summoned. Esfandiyār would be ready.
