took me a second to realise this is Island Mode, first with peko's tiny flash of remnant!sonia, and then with the 'who would kill each other on this island?'. thought it was hope's peak initially. because i don't know how to read ^^
immediate reaction was to be a little hesitant on the whole 'peko still seeing herself as a tool except now sorta to sonia's whims' but stepping back a little more i think it's just peko making baby steps and the subtext is prob that she reciprocates the feelings and is sorta melting into sonia's commands. like hypnotism, it only works if it was something you wanted to do anyways

After escaping Hope’s Peak Academy alive, the idea of getting into a similar situation for a second time hadn’t even crossed Byakuya’s mind. Yet, here he was, stranded on an island with a bunch of people he didn’t know and Monokuma trying to convince them yet again to kill each other. Well, he wasn’t having any of it. He learned some valuable lessons from the last killing game, so he would personally make sure that there wouldn’t be a single murder this time.
At least, that was the plan. It appeared that trying to keep a whole class alive was much harder than just surviving on your own. Apart from handling his eccentric new classmates and looking for clues about why he was there and how to escape, he also had to figure out how to deal with Monokuma’s continued attempts to disrupt the peace. It was a challenge, but surely nothing a Togami couldn’t handle… right?

WOW the characterisation here is good!! for everyone!! and that's especially impressive considering there's 16 participants in total!
that and seeing the others interact, and byakuya develop and adapt are the highlights of this fic, but it's an all around great fic!
also OP said that the fic isn't abandoned unless they say it is which is very appreciated by us readers!

was expecting it to be an alternate version of the killing game, but it's always interesting to see serious takes on instances where the participants are in a death game but have to work around it to prevent anyone from being killed!
especially with the sdr2 chapter 2 arc equivalent upping the ante through some people very much attempting to murder. and wow it was a rollercoaster in the planning seeing mahiru and peko get paired up, then argued against, then paired up for realsies, then hiyoko stepping in, and then peko trying to get them paired up again

trans peko is swag but it always sorta confused me when she's depicted in fics as having come out as trans (and allowed to express herself as such) while in the kuzuryuu household, because that seems like an especially unwelcoming environment, especially for someone so lowly that she's not even considered human and who is supposed to entirely devote herself to another person with little consideration for herself
but this fic gives a good and realistic explanation for that happening! while being really in character!

so sad and so sweet and so happy and so funny and so beautifully written what
this author has such a skill for comedy (particularly that young people in friend group fucking around kind) but i had no idea they had that same skill for anticipation, tension, brevity, and prose!!
interesting to see what remains similar and what changes in the characters. peko in particular has a really interesting backstory compared to her typical DR one (in terms of it being surprisingly different, not in her original backstory being bad). author is not afraid of reworking the characters to work the setting and i respect that
sequel is also really really good but unfortunately unfinished and from what i've seen the author sadly went silent on all their accounts without an update

(i have always associated peko with autism so much so i'm happy to see stuff like that elsewhere)also the rep for her having different sorta mindsets, that's a conclusion i've been coming to after replaying chap2 lately. as in, peko talking about how she wants to pet an animal and peko coldly and logically evaluating fuyuhiko's physical state are different mental states.
also some really funny lines. and peko being called pretty as she should!!

probably dead rip BUT STILL THERE'S SO MUCH GOOD HERE. SO WELL WRITTEN.
fuck, brings so many good points up about pekoyama and kuzuryuu's relationship. this is definitely on the grittier side of post-simulation recovery stories, but yeah, even though after going through chapter 2 of the original game you've seen how much they've been through and just want it to be all okay, i can see that being a wake-up call that prompts a massive shift in their relationship towards distant but sunnier skies, but i can also see them getting worse (or stagnating) before they get better.
[FIC SPOILERS]
i thought the repeated mentions of stabbing were remnant!peko recollections. then i was like 'oh wait the execution i'm silly.' then i saw the line about one of peko's ears being screwed, and then i remembered the line about the different time-periods of her life blurring and mixing up, and now i realise this fic is so gd smart.
the moment where they kissed for the first time (where fuyuhiko kisses her) is the moment in most other fics where everything starts becoming much 'easier', like peko wakes up a little and pushes apart some of her dehumanisation mindset and aside from a few bumps it's mostly smooth sailing- NOT HERE. because yeah, it's so easy for the situation to get so much more complex when peko realises something she wants is something fuyuhiko wants
best of both worlds with this alternating POV - leaves the thoughts and actions of the non-POV character(s) sorta in ambiguity but explores both perspectives in an interesting way
forever unfinished probably so it's a bleakness with a light you know is hiding somewhere, unseen but still there. well, one can treat it as an ambiguous ending
shame anyways. any media where i'm not sure what the end is (or how the creator's going to apply the concept for the length of the media) fills me with a strong curiosity for how the creator will end it.
if i were to guess, here it would be bittersweet. a little ambiguous. the road ahead is simultaneously defined and blurry. we'll keep moving nonetheless. even if some days our legs feel like they can't take it, and our heads tell us we don't deserve to be here. -

AAAH great!!!
so many people in the fandom over- or underestimate how much the tool mindset peko's been conditioned to accept has a hold on her (either having her have literally no autonomy/personal interests at all, or having it be fixed wayyy too early with barely any attention to the scars left behind that lay deeper and quieter than 'tool' and 'young master'), but i think this is one of the best balances of it!!
in a way this fic is kinda split in two parts, the 'peko trying to figure out her issues' part, and the cat part. not that i mind!! both are great (tho the transitions can be a little funky)
I KNEW THE TITLE WAS A NAME BUT I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT FOR holy shit the cat just biting her and then chilling. and peko being fine. HER GIVING THE CAT HER FAMILY NAME AS A SIGN OF PRESTIGE FOR BITING THE WORLD'S BEST SWORDSWOMAN GHJKDFJKDSF THAT'S SO SWEET AND SO PEKO.

holy shit yeah this is such a poignant time to explore. fuyuhiko's initial haziness as he struggles to fully come face-to-face with the situation at first. bc yea, that's so realistic
a thing that confused me about sdr2 chapter 2 was why peko needed to use so many damn water bottles to clean herself, i thank this fic for reminding me that carrying a bloody body means a lotta blood.
fuckin top tier moment was that body discovery. got actual chills
and holy shit OP you are gonna make me have chills whenever i play the chapter 2 trial, because when i see fuyuhiko pursuing hiyoko i'm never going to get that surrounding context that he's fully aware that if she's voted in, they'll all die-PEKO WILL LIVE.

YELL HEAH!! i've been in a kick for kuzuryuu and pekoyama doin yakuza business as they should (esp pre-despair), and there's so many nice little details and stuff here!
a nice surprise is that peko's tool/servant status is explored in different and new ways here, there's no 'you're not a tool/don't call me young master' thing here, which is obv v true but so true that it's very commonplace in fics. it's nice to see smthn different, y'know?
