HOLY SHITTT both of these are incredible but personal preference i prefer this over lion's den. probably because it's not quite as miserable and has more nice times, and me, a petulant human, prefers reading happy over misery. but both are necessary!!
there are. so many good lines. and interactions. it is unbelievable. lotta peko stuff which is nice!!

holy shit never noticed the potential of the peko & mikan relationship. bc mikan is so devoted to 1 person, and peko is the person who has had the most experience with that stuff and can help her out.
i like how it doesn't quite say everything. especially for the ending, there are author notes saying the story's been straying a little cause of writer's block (or smthn along those lines), but every little bit feels meaningful. not everything is perfectly resolved, but that's okay, it doesn't have to be. it doesn't feel like the ending of a book, moreso a closing of this chapter of their lives, which makes it feel so damn Real wth
i really like this fic's view of despair (as it affects the remnants), as the ultimate coping mechanism for when you have nothing else, and the only way you can keep going is by convincing yourself this isn't living hell but living heaven. and i like how this indeed fits with peko!! she isn't in Despair because she stares her hatred for everything they do and are right in the face without trying to cover it (dk why she wasn't brainwashed but i trust the author enough to have a reason i just missed)
it's just. aurgh. so damn incredible!!! its main detriment being that its so long i cannot sing its praises properly. but that is not a detriment because those praises are evident throughout it, whether spoken or not

It’s gentle, so, so gentle, infinitely more delicate than the rough-edged girl on the other end of the soft hands that come in contact with her skin. It’s pleasant and nonintrusive, and the more Maki’s hands study the wounds both old and new, Peko feels as though she’s revealed more than she bargained for; like this, Maki can read her like an open book, one she's hesitant to let anyone crack the spine to, and as Maki runs her thumb lightly over a bullet wound in her side, Peko closes her eyes and slightly leans into her hand, drinking in her touch.

She doesn’t know when she reached out, but she feels Maki’s creased skin underneath her fingertips and somewhere it registers that she’s touching her. “Ah! I apologize!” she starts, but Maki grabs her wrist again, lightly pressing her hand to her wounded body.
“No, it’s okay,” and it’s barely a whisper. “You can...you can touch. It’s okay.”

Peko, he decides one day, does not smell like peaches or sweet cream or lilacs or any of those expensive perfumes that vendors try to spray you with as you pass by. Peko does not smell like newly cut grass or freshly tumbled laundry or blackberry chapstick that lingers on your mouth and leaves you tasting sweetness for the rest of the day.
Because she’s not sweet, not really. She’s hardened and worn and rough around the edges and all sharp points that won’t hurt you unless you apply pressure. She is not warm like rising dough or harsh like alcohol that pierces your nose and makes you flinch, nor is she vicious like a dog’s bared teeth, despite what the world has shaped her to be.

but holy shit the ATMOSPHERE!! a commenter literally advised OP to change the names and publish it and tbh? yeah that cld work. not to knock it as a danganronpa work, no your honour i love these characters, and their names alone brings a special flair to the story. the nature of fanfiction is that you already go into it with some kinda predisposition.
but everyone else being OCs stands testement to its originality!! as well as the great writing style, subtext, sectioning and progression. not a word out of space, a neat fic to describe a neat couple!

this is so sweet and so casually fucked up (like not in a 'cackling maniacally' way, in the 'these terrible things have been there so long that they slip into the background, like it's some childhood couch and not assassination' way). ig in that way it encapsulates peko really well.
interesting how the darker nature of it all (the actual assassinations and actions along those lines themselves) are never directly shown, but they don't need to. their presence is known anyways. human eyes are naturally drawn to terrible things.
i also love the 'peko can speak multiple different languages' hc and am always happy to see it!

so raw and profound!! this is such an interesting period to examine (tho tbh the sdr2 cast has a lot of interesting periods worth examining.)

AAAH from the first part alone with how easily external appearances can deceive and how everyone looks like they're having a better time than you i knew i was hooked.
but holy shit. it is bleak, but maybe it doesn't always have to be that way. i don't know how to explain it but through the fic alone i can feel the cold wind on the rooftop, its desaturated concrete, a bright sky with dreary light or even no light at all. forms dipping and ebbing like an old-timey photograph, when people had to stay in place for 10 minutes or else any movement they made would stain the air like a ghost. it kinda feels like that.
maybe i'm just tired, good fic!

but all of the dr fics i've been bookmarking have spoilers. but because of danganronpa's nature as a Mystery Shit there's greater emphasis on spoilering for it. isn't that interesting? no? anyways.so fucking funny, laughed out loud multiple times for real.
ibuki/peko is by design an S tier comedy dynamic + seeing how how awful kuzupeko are at flirting is so great. for the latter, my mind typically goes to focusing on peko being awful at receiving compliments (typically due to Not Getting It and/or taking it hyperliterally), and while there is a bit of that here it's nice to see it mostly with fuyuhiko! and how fckn confused and flustered he gets
