Summary
Ice may have earned his callsign for his technique in the air, but Maverick has to imagine half the students think Ice got it from his ability to dole out brutal freeze-burning remarks.
Well. Leave it to the Iceman to find a way to make his callsign define him through and through.
_______
From the moment they met, Mav knew Kazansky had a mouth on him. It isn't until they're both instructors at TOPGUN, though, that Mav learns just how brutal Ice can be.
One thing's for sure: Maverick's never bored, teaching alongside Iceman. He's just not sure he's going to survive the job unscathed, himself.

Summary
How does one destroy a legend?
Well, Ed figures, the same way one gets created: layer by layer, piece by piece.
Xenk may not agree that he's a legend, but someone's putting a lot of effort in unraveling him like one. While Ed can't believe he's the one best in position to try to do something about it, someone's got to help. Xenk is stubborn enough that Ed knows if he lets Xenk out of his damn sight, he's going to try to handle this all on his own.
And Xenk handling it on his own had Ed finding him collapsed in a back-alley gutter, stripped of his armor, and bleeding to death.

Three days ago, Merlin was standing in the center of a ring of lawmen, all their rifles aiming at him, staring at Governor Uther with wide eyes and trying to think of a way to turn back the clock. Never did figure out that trick. With no other option, he stood in silence as Uther read him his rights, which in Camelot he had none. Magic users were to be expunged from the earth either by death or divine absolution. Uther had wanted death, Arthur had talked him down to absolution.
Ever since, Merlin’s been running from absolution, too.
_____
With lawmen tracking him across Camelot and warrants for his arrest posted up in every town within Camelot's borders, Merlin expects a long and lonely road ahead of him as a fugitive.

Summary
Minho was fine with how everything had ended up. Captain of his own ship, the Striker, and traveling through space was exactly what he'd wanted. It didn't matter that Gally was gone, good for him, Minho hadn't asked him to stay. Thomas and Newt were living their life out in the countryside of some backwater planet, and Minho was happy for them, truly. WICKED controlled space, and well, at least they were so preoccupied with that Minho was free to do what he liked.
He had his programmer, Brenda, from the Scorch to keep him company if he really got lonely. Though lately she's been spending more time on her computers than she has been up top with him. That was fine, too. She could do as she liked.
Then Gally comes back into Minho's orbit with a bounty on his head that just keeps ticking up in number, and turns out, Minho's not okay with how things ended. He just hopes it's not too late to turn the ship around.

Summary
A crutch lays abandoned on the floor next to Thomas’s cot.
The walker is untouched near the nightstand. Guardrails line the entire med-hut, Gally presses down on them to make sure they don’t break against his weight, but they have yet to be needed. The wheelchair has never been sat in, Gally doesn’t even know if he made it correctly, but he tried.
None of it matters. None of it will ever matter if Thomas doesn’t even try to get up.

Summary
Safe Haven doesn’t survive the typhoon.
Three years of work. Three years of laying a foundation and building it from the ground up, watching it go from campsite to village. Three years of developing friendships and families and a community. Gone. Swept away, just like that.
Gally does not handle it well.

"Tell me... Tell me we don't have to get up yet."
The words slip out of Mickey thoughtlessly, no sign of that towering wall he builds between his mind and his mouth. Otherwise there’d be no we, otherwise his words would’ve come out more of a command, otherwise Mickey would have slipped in a few expletives and made sure to grouse enough to be clear his desire was all about the wanna sleep and not about the laying in Ian’s arms.
Ian’s response comes easy. “We don’t have to get up,” he says. Earnest, always so earnest. "We don't have to go anywhere."
____Somewhere between asleep and awake, Mickey can’t help but be a little too honest about what he wants.

Summary
“I…” Mickey hems and haws, exhales slow. “Look. When I was a kid, I wanted to learn how to play the piano.”
The words bang around in Ian’s head loud in the pause that follows Mickey’s admission.
Most of the stuff Ian learns about his husband these days scuttles through everything else he already knows and finds its way comfortably into a nook and doesn’t disturb anything. It's just a little more nuance, a slightly new perspective on everything Mickey that Ian already has close to heart.
This, though. This drops like a freighter right at the front of Ian’s mind, a giant heavy block of a thing that he doesn’t know where to put away. Something entirely new.
Mickey wanted to learn piano. Piano.
_______When Ian's offered two tickets from a coworker to see an orchestra at the Chicago Theater, his first instinct was to reject them with a "no thanks," and continue about his life. But when he tells Mickey, Mickey says just enough to make Ian think he may have missed something about his husband after all this time.

Summary
Hey Mickey.
Bet you're wondering what the fuck this is, huh? Well, I'll tell you.
It's a tape recorder! Which you’re probably rolling your eyes at me for saying, because, if you’re hearing this, then you can see that, but isn’t it cool? It’s old school. Reminds me of what those detectives use in those old shitty 80’s movies we watched.
It’s got five buttons, and the labels are pretty clear: the red dot is record, the blue square is stop, the two left arrows is rewind, the two right arrows is fast forward, and then there’s play and pause. Simple. Think I’ve got maybe forty-five minutes to an hour? These tapes don’t have a whole lot of storage on them, and one side is screwed up so it won’t record — already tried. So, I gotta use the time wisely!
Some client at the club gave it to me. I think he wanted me to use it to make some sort of sex tape. Or, like, sex ASMR? I don’t know. I could be good at that, maybe. I don’t really want to do that, though.
I want to talk to you.
_______
After all this time that Ian's been missing, he leaves a tape recorder on Mickey's pillow. And on it? An hour of pure, unfiltered, Ian audio that is all, apparently, dedicated to him.

Summary
Mickey’s father is looking for him.
Has been, ever since he found out that his first attempt to beat the gay out of Mickey didn’t take. This time it’s a crusade, Mickey can’t make himself out-of-sight, out-of-mind.
He’s been hiding out at the Gallaghers for a few days. Hasn’t left once, not since he was hurried inside by Ian, palm on the small of his back, his other hand wrapped under Mickey’s bicep hauling him through the door. They've been protecting him ever since.
But Mickey can't stay forever.

Summary
Mickey promised he’d come back to Ian once he got out of prison.
While Mickey still didn’t let Ian touch the glass in between them at the prison no-contact visitation, he made clear that Ian could expect Mickey to find him. That Mickey would call, would show up, no need to worry.
But the date goes by when Mickey's supposed to be released, and Mickey doesn’t call. Doesn’t show up at the Gallagher house, or anywhere around Southside. Ian calls the prison, knows Mickey’s been let out, but where he went they don’t know.
Then, Ian catches sight of Mickey out on the street, near the Kash and Grab of all things, and any self-pity is calcified into heavy guilt in Ian’s gut, because, “Holy fuck, Mickey.”
______
Mickey comes back from prison with a ring of vicious bruises around his neck and an edge to him Ian doesn't recognize.
But he came back. He came back, and now it's time for Ian to meet him halfway.

Summary
Mickey’s never seen Ian go down like that before.
Ian can take a punch, has had plenty of black eyes — hell, Mickey’s punched Ian plenty of times himself — and Ian should be getting up. He knows Ian should be alright, if not even more pissed off. But Ian doesn’t move. He collapsed like he was shot in the head.
Looking at the stocky guy who hit Ian, Mickey tries to figure out what happened when something drops out of the guy's hand: A piece of broken sidewalk, the tan concrete bleeding red. The guy bashed Ian’s head with a rock.
Mickey jumps to his feet. “Hey!”
______
After a confrontation gone bad, Mickey and the Gallaghers get Ian to the hospital.
And look, Mickey always knew that if the Gallaghers had a will they'd find a way, but being roped into their schemes himself wasn't something he'd planned on signing on for. All the Gallaghers need to know is Mickey's helping out because he's not pure fucking evil. They don't need to know Mickey was scared shitless when Ian got knocked unconscious, Jesus, he can barely admit that to himself. Once Mickey knows Ian's not dead and not dying, he's out of there.
Except he can't bring himself to leave.

Summary
Mickey says in a quiet voice, “sometimes I wake up and I can’t move.”
Ian closes his eyes. Presses his face into Mickey’s skin and listens.
“Try to get my arm to move and it just doesn’t go. Or my legs, they don’t even twitch. I just lay there. Only thing I can do is breathe, and even then —”
Mickey swallows, hard. Ian can feel the muscles in his neck tensing, can hear the hard gulp of it cresting like a wave in his ear. Ian can imagine the expression on Mickey’s face without looking in the window’s reflection: the closed eyes, the pinched eyebrows, mouth clamped shut, jaw working around words his brain can’t bring himself to let go of yet.
He’s scared. Ian knows this, but he also needs Mickey to admit it before they can do anything about it.
______
Ian wakes up in the middle of the night alone in his own bed. That's not so usual anymore.
So Ian sets off to see where Mickey might have gone.

Summary
Mickey's lawyer thinks it'd be a good idea for him to shave his beard. Make him look more like a 'kid' for his parole hearing, supposedly stop the Judge from sentencing him to the stratosphere. Mickey thinks it's fucking stupid, because he's not some punk kid, and it's not like him being a minor has ever stopped the Judge before from declaring him some sort of menace to society.
Even if Mickey wanted to shave it, he couldn't. His hands are still fucked up from the damn fight that got him in violation of his parole in the first place.
He's bitching about it all to Ian while working at the Kash and Grab when Ian offers to shave it for him. And if Mickey wasn't such a goddamn idiot, he would have never agreed to let him.
But he does.

Summary
Oh fuck, Mickey knew he should’ve done something.
He should’ve said something. Should’ve grabbed Ian by the collar of his damn jacket and sat him down and told him to stay, like some obedient dog, because he’s got those big puppy eyes and Mickey knows it would have worked for at least long enough for them to figure out what was going on. Should’ve tried to bed him, told Ian he was getting into some new kink because he’s always so fucking amenable to Mickey’s whims because he’s sweet like that, and then handcuffed Ian to the bed and sat on his chest and made Ian talk to him, right then and there.
But he'd ignored the signs of trouble because — because it was Ian and he seemed —
Well, he'd had this laugh.
Okay, maybe it’d be better to start from the beginning.
________
Ian comes to Mickey's door, blood on his face and an innocent laugh rolling out of him, and it's just enough to distract Mickey to everything that's wrong with this image until it's too late, and Ian's in the fucking wind.
But fuck all if Mickey won't find him again.

“Do you think she deserved that?”
Derek’s hands tighten on the steering wheel.
“You couldn’t take the shot,” he says, matter-of-factly. There’s a surprising lack of judgment in his tone but the words sound damning all the same. “She was going to hurt you. Keep hurting everyone,” Derek sneers. “It was the only option we had. We needed to buy ourselves time.” Destroy evidence, goes unsaid. “We needed... What was your plan?”
Allison doesn’t even know anymore.
_______
Allison believed she could finally take Kate down. She'd had a gun, some training, and knew exactly where to find her. All Allison needed to do was take the shot.
But she couldn't finish Kate off.
In the end it was her and Derek and the smell of gasoline, a pyre so high it stretched above the trees, and Kate screaming from inside the house.

Summary
When Gally goes to pack up his own meager belongings, Thomas is there with his own things wrapped up and strapped to his back. Gally looks at his spot on the floor where he used to sleep, closer to Gally than he’d realized, and sees that it’s bare.
“Are you coming with me?” Gally asks.
Thomas grins, then the smile falters and he kicks at the ground in that way he always does when he thinks his curiosity might get the best of him.
“Thought I might.”
________
Gally and Thomas explore the place they're now supposed to stay.
