Hen slowly looks up from her phone and takes a deep breath. “What?” She laughs, incredulous. Her eyes scan Buck up and down.
Buck looks around them to make sure they’re alone in the loft living room. Eddie is nowhere to be seen, he thinks he’s at the gym downstairs. “Yeah,” He whispers to her. “We- we watched the new Conjuring movie last night,” He looks down at his shaky hands that are fidgeting with a loose thread hanging off his pants. “And- and then he started touching my hair and this morning he picked me up and got me my favorite coffee and asked me how I slept?” Hen seems unfazed by his words and he’s getting more anxious by the second. “He- he never does that!” As soon as he says that, he can hear Eddie’s footsteps coming up the stairs. He looks at him and smiles while he takes a seat on one of the stools in the kitchen. “And now he won’t stop staring at me…” Hen turns her head around. “Don’t look!”
OR Buck thinks Eddie is possessed by a gay demon. He’s not, he just happens to be in love with him.

Summary
When Buck convinces Eddie to join him for a night of speed dating, neither of them expect to walk away with anything except awkward stories and maybe some free appetizers.
Instead, they spend the entire evening boring every single person in the room by talking about each other.
When they finally wind up across the table together, it feels like a relief—but also a little bit of a wake-up call. Clearly, they’re doing something wrong in the dating department. So they make a deal: a couple of “practice dates,” just to figure out why they can’t seem to connect with anyone else.
Only, the more they lean into fake flirting, hand-holding, and quiet dinners filled with laughter, the more obvious it becomes—dating isn’t the problem. The problem is that it’s not each other.

It’s pathological. The one commonality that’s remained steady and true for the past seven years. They have a routine of this by now, a sure thing that’s written itself into stone: Eddie will say no, Buck will try to convince him, blue eyes impossibly bright and suppliant, and Eddie’s no will unceremoniously turn into a yes.
They’ve performed the very ritual at least four times in the past two hours alone.

Eventually, he shakes his head. “You should ask Buck, he knows,” tells the woman. “Ask Buck.”
She frowns, looking at the nurse who’s on the other side of the bed. “Buck, as in…” she wonders out loud.
“That man there,” the male nurse tells her, and by pointing at him, he invites Buck to come closer, to get back into the cubicle. “He’s a great boyfriend,” then he comments, teasing but also sweet, genuine, and Buck chokes on his spit, all red and flustered.
Good thing he’s already sweating.
He wants to correct the nurse but Eddie beats him to it. “Oh, gracias, I couldn’t remember,” he exhales, as if a huge weight had been lifted from his shoulders, mouth stretched into a soft, relieved smile.
“Oh,” he stammers, “no, Eddie, I’m really not–”
Eddie fondly shushes him with a flick of his hand. “Come on, Buck, you are,” amusedly he tells Buck.
Eddie is hit on the head and is confused about his relationship with Buck. He only knows that he trusts Buck. Buck is special.

“The big deal,” Buck says in exasperation, slamming his fork down, “is that it’s a couples retreat. For couples.”
“And?” Chimney raises his eyebrows, still not buying it.
“And I entered the giveaway when Tommy and I were still together!” Buck snaps. ”I don’t want t-to—it would just feel weird, okay? It’s supposed to be all—like, romantic. Flower petals on the bed and stuff.”
Buck and Eddie take a romantic getaway. Platonically.
