Summary
The first thing that you should know is that every tavern has a brooding corner. A badly lit spot where an individual can sit at a table on their own and wallow in their angst and moroseness.
The second thing that you should know is that a certain blacksmith had never sat in the brooding corner. Not because he was short on angst (though he was in stature) – as a barely-more-than-teenager roaming the country alone he had plenty of that - but because he prided himself on being self-aware in all things (he was not). So this particular night he sat in a well-lit area of this particular tavern, not even facing the brooding corner, brooding.
The third thing that you should know is that a certain rogue entered the tavern that same night, looking to do a spot of brooding himself.
Now comes the part where the tale splits in two…
