Summary
What Jayce first ascribed to suppressants (and sheer willpower) was actually the byproduct of a serious medical condition. Viktor hasn't had a heat since he was a teenager. Every year Viktor’s hypothalamus tested the dry well of his fuel reserves and elected to divert any runoff from ovulation to more vital bodily functions (say, breathing).
Worse: It’s common knowledge that heats and ruts are strongest at their outset. Hormones fluctuate over the years; cycles settle; the body calibrates to accommodate the unruly roommate of ovulation. But Viktor’s body doesn’t have the benefit of practice. Somehow—against every natural law—Viktor, about a side glance from death and as far as a decade from his last heat, is about to nosedive into an induction furnace.

When the temporary energy boost from his first Shimmer experiment triggers a heat, Viktor resolves to suffer the consequences alone. Needless to say, things don't go as planned.

Jayce’s lower lip trembles for a moment. It’s not a thought he wants to entertain. He realizes, abruptly, that it’s not something he thinks he could survive. Viktor is the reason he’s alive. He’s given him everything. What a piss poor thank you Jayce has given, if Viktor doesn’t even trust him enough to let him help save his life in return.

takes place after viktor collapses in the lab in s1 ep5. viktor consumed by work to the point of exhaustion isn't something new, and wasn't something jayce put much thought into other than that's viktor, but when viktor is hospitalized after collapsing and jayce finds out it's a lot more dire than he thought.... maybe viktor doesn't trust jayce as much as jayce thought he did.

Summary
Viktor and Jayce start working as partners on their shared Hextech dream. Even as things start looking up, Jayce continues to struggle with his mental health, often thinking about how he almost jumped to his death out of his former workshop.
Viktor comes to notice that Jayce isn't all smiles and grand aspirations, despite the mask he puts on. Whenever Jayce feels he isn't doing 'enough', he takes it out on himself in less-than healthy ways and it is becoming harder and harder to hide.
All Viktor knew before Jayce was dedication to his studies and inventions, so the last thing he expected was developing feelings for the other man. All the while Jayce, somewhat foolishly, thinks he's straight and that his affection towards Viktor is merely friendship, until he turns down Mel and starts second-thinking his attractions...

At an after-party, Viktor drinks a little too much. Jayce helps him home, not expecting a confession.

Ever so carefully- as if his hair were made of glass instead of silk and daydreams- Viktor reaches his hand out, his fingers stretching toward Jayce’s hair. He wavers for a moment, hesitating only a second- what if Jayce pulls away? What if he is misreading this whole scenario? What if he crosses a line that cannot be uncrossed-
