Summary
"So hot," the other woman agreed, shooting a quick glance out at Jack. "Those arms. Have mercy."
Robby hid a smile. Jack was gonna love hearing about this.
Her friend made an agreeing sort of noise. "Yeah, but I'm gonna be so real with you: the leg kinda freaks me out."
And Robby froze, a ripple of offense sweeping him.

Summary
“Bring everything,” Jack demands. “Send Collins, Mohan, Langdon, King— I want anyone even a little bit useful up here right now, Dana—”
“They’re coming,” Dana tells him down the other end, through the chaos he can hear, shouting voices and scrambling action. It’s such an eerie counterpoint to the thunder-rumbling silence up here on the roof that Jack’s stomach turns as he ducks for two more rescue breaths. “How bad is it?”
Jack pushes his fingers to Robby’s throat again and still finds nothing. His face is so white when he cups it between his hands, probing for anything, the slightest flutter of a pulse, and he can’t find it. Nothing.
“Bad,” he tells her. The phone slips from between his cheek and shoulder to crack on the rooftop.
or: robby gets struck by lightning one night when jack meets him up on the roof.

Summary
Shot down over Germany late in the war, Major Gale Cleven and John “Bucky” Egan survive against the odds — stranded deep in enemy territory with no clear path home. But amid the rubble, they stumble on something no one was trained to handle — not an enemy, not a target, but something far more unexpected.
Back at base, nothing is quite the same. What they found won’t let go — and neither will Gale.
It’s not what war trains you for. It’s not what Gale ever thought he’d be asked to carry.
And Bucky, watching it unfold, starts to realize he’s falling for more than just the man Gale’s becoming.Bookmarked by edbl

Summary
“Marge takin’ good care of you, Buck?” he finally asks, lips barely moving.
“Yeah she really is, John. She looks out for me.”
John nods a little, stops when Gale tuts and rests a hand under his chin, featherlight restraint.
“She said you asked her if I’m takin’ good care of her too.”
“Yeah. Gotta make sure, you know?”
Gale hums, a sort of breathy ‘uh-huh’ through barely-parted lips as he carefully cleans the rewetted blood, swipes so gentle they don’t hurt even when he’s working right up next to John’s throbbing nose.
“You need someone to take care of you too, Bucky.”
“No point really,” John argues, definitely slurring now as everything catches up to him at once, adrenaline draining away to leave him nothing more than drunk and exhausted. “Not much here to care about. ‘S all back there.”
“That ain’t true.”
--//--
John Egan has survived hell and returned to America after the war to find some promises have been kept, but most have been hollow. The one bright spot in his disappointing return to 'normal life' is his next door neighbor Gale Cleven and Gale's wife Marge, both of whom somehow still find John to be worth knowing, even after everything.

Brady shakes his head, speaking to Buck, “You’ll never get rid of him. He follows you around like a lost puppy looking for scraps.”
And Bucky can’t really argue with that so he shrugs and plays into it, says, “I’ve been thinking of moving to Casper, Wyoming. See what all the charm is. Long as I can dodge the dog catchers I might make a life for myself there.”
Buck snorts next to him.

“We’re not pilots anymore,” Brady snaps, “Not right now, anyway. You can’t keep living in Crosby’s car."

“I had been right, I was still right, I was always right. I had lived my life one way and I could just as well have lived it another. I had done this and I hadn't done that. I hadn't done this thing but I had done another. And so?”
― Albert Camus, The StrangerBucky has spent his youth living life with an expiration date; letting his impulses lead, taking for granted what he had, uncaring of what others thought about him. Summary
The cold, dry Wyoming dirt fills Gale's lungs and passes into his blood, melts into the plasma there, begins making up his body again, it seeps into his white bones and every movement is part of that desert. England had not quite taken the cowboy out of him before he was back again, married and squirming in his bed from the nightmares. He is more than Casper, he wants more than what it gives; John can give him more, but he is half the man he wishes he was, and squirms all the more at night for he thinks little of that kind of adventure, and less still of himself.

Summary
The first time he saw Buck sink to his knees in front of him he almost came on the spot. It had been one of the best he'd ever had, the pleasure Buck took from it clear in the way he was so desperate to take John's cock deeper that he kept choking himself. He hadn’t stopped once – not even to complain about his jaw being sore – until John was soft and oversensitive, and even then he had to be pulled away.

Summary
After the war, Bucky tries to lose himself in New York City. Gale finds him anyway.
-----
With a yawn, John unlocks the door and pulls it open, and that yawn becomes a squeak, which becomes a cough, which becomes “Buck?” He squeezes his eyes shut, rubs them with his knuckles, and pries them back open.
Gale is still there in the soft light of the hotel hallway, the leather of his A-3 jacket gleaming and crusher cap angled just-so, toothpick a taunt and temptation both in the corner of his mouth. He’s smirking and, if John didn’t know better, blushing as he gives John a quick once-over. John looks down at himself. Lipstick is still smeared on his nipples. Clearing his throat, he tugs the robe tighter shut, shielding his chest from Gale’s sight.
Blue eyes flick up to his, amusement crystal clear. John feels faint. Perhaps this is how a Victorian felt upon seeing an ankle.
“Hey, Major,” Gale says, his familiar drawl like fingernails over John’s skin, scattering goosebumps. John wants to shiver. He abstains. “You’re a hard man to find.”
