Summary
“What does God want from us?” Nicolo asks.
Yusuf lays down beside him. They stare up at the clear night sky. “Many of the men here laid siege to Antioch, once,” Yusuf says, or at least thinks he does. “Now you do. The stars are the same. If God cared, he would change them.”
“You think God does not care what we do?”
“God created this world,” Yusuf says, gesturing up to the stars. “It is beautiful. I do not need more from him.”

Summary
He's imagined their reunion many times. He's imagined sweeping Nicolo off his feet with eloquent declarations of undying devotion, imagined being the one swept off his feet by Nicolo’s quiet sincerity. He's even imagined the unlikely possibility that the spark will have died, that the sight of Nicolo won't set a fire in his blood the way it always has.
Or: Oh, that time in Malta.

Summary
Michelangelo is a cunt.
For one thing, he insists on calling him Giuseppe, even though Yusuf decided against a change of name while in Roma.
For another, he is spectacularly nonplussed by the concept of personal space, regardless of how many times Yusuf has cleared his throat and stared daggers at the man from across the room.
Or, that time Joe didn't get to stab Michelangelo for being a big perv, among more pleasant activities in Italy.

Summary
“Nicky brought the mustache style to Italy, you know,” Joe offers out of nowhere. He can nearly hear Andy’s eye roll. “I believe it was sometime in the early 1400s - wasn’t it?”
“Ah, yes,” Nicky says, with a sage nod. “You inspired me one morning, and I thought to shave off the bottom.”
“It was the eve before the Battle of San Romano, I believe, and not a man could take his eyes off of you the next day.”
“That explains why you died at least twice that day.”
“I am forever fixated on you.”
“You’re both kidding,” Nile says, “Right?”
“You should probably just sleep,” Andy advises. “They do this a lot.”-----
In which Nicky and Joe take liberties with recounting history, because it's fun.

Andromache tells him: "The Greeks used to have seven different words for love. Well. More, probably. But I remember seven." She shrugs. "There are many ways to love one another, and life is long. We've time enough for them all. It's the only thing that makes it worthwhile."
Nicky and his immortal family, over the centuries.

Summary
Sarwa is ladling stew into bowls and she hands the first one to Yusuf, who passes it to Nicolo and takes a drink from the now filled flask. “Is he your lover?” she asks.
Yusuf chokes on water and Nicolo pounds his back, eyebrows peaked with concern.
“I—” Yusuf pauses, wiping his streaming eyes.
Sarwa looks at him, nothing but mild curiosity on her face.
Yusuf glances at Nicolo. The firelight paints his cheekbones flickering gold, his eyes hooded and sleepy in the dim light.
“I don’t know what he is,” Yusuf finally admits, still looking at Nicolo.
Nicolo’s mouth quirks and he takes another bite of soup.
“He looks at you like you belong to him,” Sarwa says.
Nicolo keeps eating, oblivious to what they’re saying.
“I think he belongs to me too,” Yusuf whispers.

“He has a crush on him,” Joe says around a mouthful of carrots and points his fork at him for emphasis. To someone who once has had Joe’s scimitar rammed through his chest, it’s not exactly a terrifying gesture, but it still feels a tad more aggressive than Nicky thinks the situation warrants.
(In which archaeologists make a discovery, Joe is upset, and Nicky trolls historians.)

Miles Auditore da Roma thought the Protestant Reformation was a good idea, but the Catholic/Protestant wars were not, so he dispatched his ancestor to do something about it. Guest-starring Leonardo da Vinci, the concept of vaccination, and the politics of the Italian Wars.
Takes place after Brotherhood, so read that first.

Summary
Over the past few years, he’s started sleeping as little as he possibly can without dying — his under-eyes are permanently bruised and he spends daytimes hallucinating. It’s better than dwelling on what has come before: screams, limp bodies, spraying blood, blue eyes.

Summary
Before they were Joe and Nicky, they were Yusuf and Nicolò. And there was gravity, there were moths to flame, and there was them.
“You have lost your mind,” said Nicolò. His expression was awe-struck, glowing with hesitant hope.
“I have lost my heart,” Yusuf said in response, emboldened. “You have it.”

Summary
“You’re the worst,” Thor pinches the bridge of his nose once again, and Loki sees Hela cocking her head, eyeing them with amused curiosity, “why are you baiting her to kill us? We have just had a conversation about recklessness. Mainly, you complained about mine. I feel entitled to complain about yours now, considering you lump my life with yours on the line.”
“I was not baiting her,” he explains impatiently, they do not have this kind of time to be idling, “I was merely pointing out it is to her advantage to keep us alive. Forgive me for assuming she uses her brain, unlike you.”
“Are you ever going to come up with a better argument than calling me an idiot? It’s been centuries, brother, surely you must have a better comeback by now–”
“I will stab you–”
A sound, harsh and sharp, interrupts their bickering, and Loki is shocked to find it’s Hela laughing. It is not anywhere nice or reassuring, but he wouldn’t call it unpleasant. “I must admit, this is entertaining. Are you always this petty?”
“No,” says Loki while Thor says, “yes.”
*
or, Thor returns to Asgard a little sooner, secrets are aired a little earlier, and somehow, that makes all the difference.

Summary
John should’ve left already.
He willed himself to go. Get up, get moving. Would be so easy to gather his feet under him. Hell, there was a horse grazing in eyeshot, one of many they’d shot the Pinkerton off the back of. No Old Boy, but still. He could ride down to Copperhead Landing, no fuss. Gather Abigail, Jack, get the hell out of New Hanover.
He couldn’t leave Arthur. The thought settled in his stomach like a weight, tethering him to the ground below him.

John forces Arthur to keep on living. Even acts of love come with consequences.
