Instead of traveling forward in time five thousand years, our heroes settle down and attempt to build a civilization, slowly coming into their own as gods. In their small but growing domain, many stories weave together into a single, immense timeline.
Also a ton of bullshit occurs. But this is not particularly new.

Thirty days til Dora Lange dies and though she don’t know it yet, she wouldn’t be too surprised.
This is my Yuletide gift, a totally mesmerizing mix of beauty and horror and bleak realism set against the backdrop of rural Louisiana—the story of Dora Lange, the murder victim at the center of S1 of True Detective, given a voice and an identity and a life she was never allowed to have on the show, which cast her as a hooker and not much more. The writer is so deft at weaving layers of story into the brief narrative, and the way she brings Dora's voice to life is beautiful and strange and perfect. It's exactly what I wanted, and it hits all the notes I love about the series itself—the same dark, eerie, hypnotic mystery and a thousand things we'll never know.
