Summary
Hal Jordan came to terms with being voidmarked over a decade ago. The meaningless yellow symbols encircling the base of his finger had never been anything more than a source of curiosity for his classmates (who were all marked with ordinary names) and disappointment for his mother.
Hal was always the first to point out how nonsensical his own mark was, to laugh at his own poor luck and to joke about how at least he wasn’t going to get trapped in a boring marriage with a whiny wife and ugly kids like the rest of his peers. At first, he only said it to take a weapon out of the hands of his would-be bullies, but time and repetition got to him and eventually he sort of started to believe it.

Summary
When Hal is captured by the notorious vampire Thaal Sinestro, John and Guy make a bargain with a lesser evil. Kylie Rayner is a name too plain for the monster in the woods, but what they find is a girl with corpse-cold skin and living eyes. What they find is power, and a shared past that might explain what exactly Sinestro wants with Hal, and how little time they have before he summons an apocalypse.
It's three weeks until the winter solstice. Time is running out.

Summary
He sits up as quietly as he can and surveys the bedroom. Early morning sunlight filters through the gauzy curtains, casting everything in pale light. The furniture is all alien, but Hal recognizes the style, all pale stone and colorful fabrics and intricately embroidered decorations. He recognizes Korugar.
He looks down at the figure asleep beside him. Maybe it’s only the poor lighting, but Hal thinks Sinestro appears younger, perhaps as young as he was when they first met, his face unlined and hair dark and full. Well, that’s not a surprise, is it? Who doesn’t wish they were a bit younger?
Hal examines himself. No chains or cuffs—he’s here of his own free will, not a prisoner. It makes sense. Sinestro has always wanted Hal to come to him willingly.
He’s still not sure how he’s going to get Sinestro free of the Black Mercy that is currently wrapped around his spine, but he’ll think of something. He always does.

“Hal,” greets Ollie, outfit casual, hands in his pockets, worry visible but not overpowering. “You called? God, it’s good to see you.”
He swallows past his guilt. “Hi, Ollie,” he greets, perhaps more subdued than he should be, and Ollie tenses, imperceptibly so. “Thanks for coming.”
“Of course,” reassures Ollie. “Are you kidding? For once you call me, and it’s not with the universe’s potential destruction on the horizon.” He laughs. “It’s basically a miracle.”
Hal feels the smile settle on his face. It must look too sentimental for their usual interactions, too flighty, but Ollie’s Ollie, so he gracefully doesn’t mention it.
“You suggested food,” he says instead. “I’m due food, Hal. Still recovering from saving your damn ass.”
(or: in which Hal, is as always, brave and blind to the fact, Ollie's missed him, and everything is not okay, but very much on its way.)
