Summary
Pidge is still close —closer than is entirely comfortable if he has to be honest— giving him an evaluating glance. Lance doesn’t really know where to look, other than up her nose— but that grows old pretty fast. So he looks at himself in the reflection of her glasses. And squints.
He touches his own face for the first time since waking up— and feels the roughness of his chin.
“I have stubble,” he says, and the words are as alarmed as they can be even though they still sound slightly slurred, slightly off.
Pidge blinks a couple of times at him, and finally retracts into a more comfortable distance.
“Well, yeah,” she says. “You are like, what? 22? 23 in a couple of months?”
“I’m feeling— I’m feeling a little queasy,” he says then, with bright spots of color dancing in front of his eyes as he thinks 22.
Suddenly, a bucket gets shoved against his face. He takes hold of it with clammy fingers and he leans on his side so he can... use it. Thoroughly.
“I’m having Garrison flashbacks,” he hears Pidge say.
(Or: Lance is stung by an alien bug, loses his memories temporarily and makes assumptions about his and Keith's relationship. Also, Pidge cheats at Uno.)

Finding out your best friend that you’re deeply, irrevocably in love with is engaged is a true punch to the gut— but Keith takes it like a champ. His only concern is that he’s never met this fiance, and Lance wouldn’t say yes to someone he’s not absolutely sure of, to someone who doesn’t know his friends. Something is Up.
He doesn’t realize the only thing Up is his levels of hangover and regrets of consuming alcohol, and that he actually does know Lance’s fiance. To a very personal degree.

“What makes you say that?” he asks, entertaining it. His fingers tremble a little on the cloth he’s using, and he wills them to go still.
“I dunno,” Keith slurs, and he manages a huff of laughter at that. “You look like the love of my life.”

Fair enough, asking ‘who are you’ to your crush when you haven’t seen them in a year was not the best way to go, but no matter, because Keith is still blaming Shiro, and he told him so a month after they started their Voltron trip.
Keith’s determined to make amends and win Lance’s attention. Surely there’s something he can do that doesn’t involve his hair because that’s the only thing Lance seems obsessed about.

If it were anybody else, Lance would think they’re messing with him for fun.
But Keith is Keith, straight-forward and guileless. If he’s touching Lance more, it’s only because he’s gotten more comfortable. And on one hand, that’s great, that’s—Lance feels very honored. His heart is doing backflips and aerial stunts and everything. On the other, this is really not helping with his raging crush.
His breaking point turns out to be when Keith, exhausted after a day of subspace meetings, drops his head onto Lance’s shoulder and sighs.
It’s a sigh that says, now I’m comfortable, that admits, I’m recharging, that practically screams, you help.
Hands in his pockets, he lets Lance bear his weight as if he trusts Lance to handle it. Great. That’s just—how dare he. How dare he be so vulnerable with Lance? Who does that?
It’s so enraging that Lance just blurts out, “I’m going to need you to stop doing this before I fall in love with you even more, asshole.”
Keith freezes.

Lance stopped listening a long time ago. Something about his attention span constantly wandering to Keith beside him whenever he brushes his thumb across Lance’s knuckles or presses his foot against Lance’s. It’s the consistent contact that distracts him. He loves it.
“Please explain again what the issue is here?” Keith asks, directing a pointed glare towards the strangers.
The man across from them rubs his temple. He called himself Shiro earlier and that certainly didn’t ring any bells in Lance’s head. His recognition remains blank.
“I’m not saying you two can’t hold hands. It’s just—”
“This is going to be great blackmail material for when you regain your memories.”
