Even though Shane vowed it wouldn't happen again, it did. He woke up mid-panic, clawing at his sweaty clothes like they were holding him down. He stifled his voice, hoping he was quick enough to not wake Ilya. He felt his husband's hands on his back anyway, squeezing tightly and caressing his shoulders—pulling him out of the nightmare and back into their safe, warm bed.
Shane didn't know how to explain what was happening to him. He didn't have a fever, but he was sick—sick with something he couldn't describe.
Something so bad he kept falling on the ice.
Shane couldn't go on like this. Fuck moderation. He had to figure something out and fix this. Fast. He wasn't going to let hockey be taken from him.

Shane Hollander never really cared much about how he looked, so he’s basically been getting the same hair cut since he was 17. After a decade of the same style however, he discovers some very good reasons to have long hair.
Scenes take place between the end of the last Boston year through TLG years (only chapter five will be post-canon). Each chapter can be read as a separate one-shot. Some of the chapters will be very smutty, some will just be fluffy - check out author notes for individual ratings.
This is unabashed propaganda in my campaign to get long haired Shane in season two with a little bit of smut as a treat.

“It’s for Spaghetti,” Shane says.
Ilya gives him an absolutely horrified look at that and turns a little green, which makes him remember that Spaghetti isn’t just his snake's name.
“Not food!” He rushes to explain. “Not food spaghetti! Snake Spaghetti!”
“What the fuck are you even saying right now,” Ilya says, looking honestly a little concerned that Shane might have something going wrong in his head.
(Distancing himself from almost twenty years of owning a snake, Shane can indeed see why this situation might be a little alarming for someone on the outside looking in.)

That Shane can understand. He wouldn’t like it if their positions were reversed, after all, if he thought Ilya was potentially in danger and he was in the next room over drinking champagne and making smalltalk. He sees Ilya go somewhere in his head sometimes, sees him retreat inwards, sees him check out even if his body is still there, going so deep inside that he doesn’t even catch Shane’s eye for a bit even when something funny happens, too far away for Shane to reach him.
But it’s also not like he can just go up and grab Ilya by the arm and pull him away from the party, not without inviting speculation and a whisper storm. He doesn’t have that right, doesn’t have that privilege, to potentially need Ilya or be needed by Ilya and be able to just pull him away.
It’s moments like these that Shane feels the weight of their secret like a physical thing.
