“You wanted that drink, right?” Tom presses.
When it's brought up, Grace glances down at the pink liquor as though it was the first time he had ever seen it in his life, even though it's been loosely in his hand for god-knows how long now. He gives a little nod, raising the cup up slowly, like it weighed a thousand pounds, to drink messily. There’s a smear of glitter across Grace’s lips, the liquor catching the light as it licked into the grooves of his collarbones and chest, where it disappeared in a dull grayish-pink stain in his button-up.
It completely stops Colt in his tracks, the breath getting sucked from his lungs, as the sight shoved itself down his throat, as nauseatingly potent as any of the liquor at this stupid party.

“Y’ever see Dracula?” Cliff asks.
Rick shakes his head. His eyebrows furrow in. “Now what’s that have to do with––” He cuts himself off as Cliff hooks the corner of his own mouth and pulls his cheek back. Pearly white fangs, sharpened to a point, take the place of his canines. They’re longer than they should be, just unnatural enough, just far enough from human to make Rick feel unnerved. Cliff lets go of his cheek, and the fangs disappear inside his mouth.
“That’s no party trick,” Cliff tells him. He huffs out an irritated breath, presumably when he sees Rick’s expression. “‘M not happy either.”

Rocky anticipates this will be his last clutch. He asks Grace for a favor.

Rocky isn't satisfied with the Eridian medical team's level of care for me. I've tried to convince him that they're doing a great job, that they're so friendly, and polite, and thorough — but they will never be enough, for him. He's always insistent that he can find more capable minds to care for me. His frustration makes him into a different person, an angrier person who screams at people for perceived slights, who refuses to listen when I insist they've done nothing wrong.
I know it's unhealthy, this obsession he has with perfecting my healthcare. I know it should upset me to see him like this.
But it doesn't.
I'm not frightened, watching him scream at the newest member of the team after they accidentally grabbed my arm too roughly and left a bruise. I'm not angry, when he insists on doubling my weekly visits to the physical therapist, despite the fact I'm not sure if I need to keep going at all. And I'm not disgusted, when I learn about the copies of my organs he's been growing in secret all this time, after my emergency lung transplant.
I feel loved. I'm loved in every way that's possible, for him.

(The blood goes all the way around, like it’s not only from Driver’s injury. Lars pretends not to notice.) It’s ripped, next to the zipper, from the knife that was in his stomach. Lars doesn’t think Driver should wear a bloody jacket.
Driver shakes his head, eyeing Lars warily.
Well. That’s okay. Lars doesn’t like when people take his blanket, either.
