In which Eddie is stuck in suburbia with a Steve who mows the garden shirtless and insists on wearing short shorts.
Steve has little red marks on the backs of his heels from old blisters, or something, and above that on the soft flesh of his hairy shin a little black mole. It’s frightening, to know these things about Steve, Eddie doesn’t know what to do with it. He feels like he should tell someone, the gossip rag down at Hawkins High Steve’s curled up in a chair now, reading glasses on his nose and little frown on his face, reading their bills or taxes or something, heels and moles on display for the whole world to see.
People shouldn’t be allowed to see Steve like this. Someone needs to tell the press. It’s a national concern. His hair is being all… Eddie slams his mug down on the counter and scurries out, slamming the door after himself. Awful.

El paints her nails, Max's nails, and Steve Harrington's nails. Steve teaches her that maybe people aren't normal or different species or anything at all except human.
Max painted her nails once, a deep burgundy red. That had been nice. El thinks she liked the blue more though, the way it shimmers in the right light. It looks like magic, almost (if magic had a colour that wasn’t abyss black and water for miles). She hopes Max doesn’t mind that she prefers blue, fumbles halfway through the second coat when she realises Max is — She feels bad for preferring things that didn’t happen with Max.
Still, she likes the blue. The way it glitters deep like car paint reminds her of Max anyway. Complex and hidden, like those smiles Max has when she’s trying not to. Blue always reminds her of Max, even though maybe red or orange should. She wonders if it’s that blue room with those blue lights where she took Max’s heart and squeezed —
