Summary
Ilya asked Shane’s father while Shane and his mother were talking outside: “Is boyfriends correct? Lovers is incorrect, but I am not sure what is correct.”
“Well,” Mr. Hollander said. “‘Lovers’ is usually used for, hm, a mistress or an affair. Something kind of sordid. Though--you would say Romeo and Juliet is a play about two lovers,” he said. He paused his knife on the chopping board. “Somehow that’s right and using it for real people isn’t right. English is a damn funny language, Ilya."
“Yes,” Ilya said from the bottom of his heart.

Summary
Ilya Rozanov is having a very good night. He’s scored a goal, his edges are perfect, and his chirping of the Vegas Golden Knights’ roster is reaching art-form levels of arrogance. But hockey is a game of physics and ruts in the ice, and it only takes one meaningless check in the third period for Ilya’s season to shatter in a single, sickening crack.
Three hundred miles away, Shane Hollander is forced to watch the replay in a silent equipment room.
When Shane finally breaks and calls Boston forward Cliff Marlow, he expects to be met with confusion or hostility. Instead, he finds that the Boston Bears have been keeping a secret for years— and Shane starts to realize the differences between Montreal and Boston span further than he was ever ready for.
What follows is meddling teammates who insist on doing laundry, PT that involves more sitting and standing reps than really feels necessary, and a boyfriend who is one research paper away from a medical degree. Plus, so much kale.
Or: The one where Ilya breaks his leg, the Bears decide they love Shane Hollander, and everyone argues over who gets to be who in NHL 18.

Summary
Shane had truly believed that the worst was behind them.
Mostly because his barometer for ‘worst’ had been recalibrated from a weighted mass of worry lodged in the base of his throat about league reactions, and the strain of hiding his heart, rewritten in an instant where he'd known that the worst was actually a notification bubble in a corner where it never showed, next to a name that taught Shane what it was worth to be alive at all; that opened up and spelled terror and the end of the whole goddamn world—but then it wasn't. They didn't end. Shane didn't lose. They made it through the worst.
Surely that meant everything would be okay moving forward, since they'd already survived the worst.
__________
Or: Shane genuinely does believe they've made it through the storm, that the worst came for them and they walked out okay. Breathing. Alive. Together.
Shane—waiting for his fiancé in a hotel room, watching the man he loves more than life collapse on the ice in high definition, the light vanishing from his eyes, the feed cutting just before a crash cart descends upon him—
Shane realizes swiftly—painfully—that he was really fucking wrong.

Summary
Shane Hollander knows he’s not a small guy. Years of hockey and workouts have built up his muscles, and lucky genetics from his father’s side places him just shy of six feet. He’s checked hockey players half a foot and several pounds more than him, knocked Scott Hunter into the ice in the one fight he’s ever actually thrown hands in. But as much as Shane loves the game, the fast movements, passes, and team camaraderie, there were times where he could only feel regret at following the path of athletic fame. He puts on the media smile he practices in the mirror as he brushes his hair each day, uses the bright lights of press conferences to erase his view of the audience, and keeps his answers simple and focused on hockey.
The number of people outside the arena still makes him feel crushed in on all sides, small. Eyes trained on his face, cameras flashing, pens and cell phones being passed into his hands. The itch of it all settles under his skin.

Summary
Shane says he’s fine. He always does.
Ilya doesn’t believe him.
When the early signs of pregnancy start showing up — the nausea, the fatigue, the little tremors Shane refuses to acknowledge — Ilya notices everything. He notices the way Shane pushes through practice, brushes off concern, and insists he doesn’t need help. And he refuses to let him do it alone.
Between ice rinks, drives home, and quiet evenings in their apartment, they learn to navigate this unexpected pregnancy together. Ilya takes care of Shane with careful hands and steady insistence, and Shane, despite himself, starts to realize maybe he doesn’t have to handle everything on his own.
Hockey doesn’t stop. Life doesn’t pause. But slowly, stubbornly, the two of them adjust — learning to balance routine, responsibility, and each other, one small, intimate moment at a time.
Because some things — like care, trust, and each other — aren’t optional.

Summary
The closet in the hall holds the thicker comforter that he sleeps with in the winter. Shane doesn’t recognize his own hands as he yanks it out from the top shelf, watching it tumble onto the floor and trail behind him as he hefts it into his bedroom, laying down on his bed and pulling it over him.
He ducks his head underneath, blanketing his own sight in blue-tinted darkness. The ringing in his ears lessens, the ache behind his eyes softens. Shane knows what he’s done, but maybe if he just doesn’t think the word, it doesn’t have to be true. Maybe he can ignore all of these implications and keep doing what he’s been doing for so long, avoiding the change that looms over him like an executioner’s blade.
The nest is still wrong.
The realization makes his breath catch in his throat. Panic collapses like a dying star in his chest—not an outward explosion, loud and impossible to ignore, but a quiet implosion, the integrity of his choices quickly falling away in the face of instincts he’s been suppressing like this for five years.

Summary
Shane finds himself pregnant and is left with two options; abort, and save his career/ keep his identity hidden, or quit the NHL and go awol. It should be known by now; Shane Hollander never does things the easy way.
-
“Okay with it?” Ilya parrots, his voice just as raw as Shane’s. “Why would I not be okay with it?”
Shane shrugs one shoulder, unsure of the answer himself, unsure of exactly what to say besides the ugly truth hidden within his chest; because it means I am a pathetic man.
Ilya seems to read his silence anyway. He walks forward, then, and this time Shane doesn’t try to stop his progression. He has enough time to brace himself for it before strong, familiar arms are wrapped around him and he’s entirely engulfed by the Russian. For the first time in weeks, Shane feels himself snap back to reality so violently his body quakes.
He clings to Ilya, burying his nose in the Alpha’s chest, inhaling his deep, pine scent and allowing it to fill him entirely as something in his chest cracks open and he sobs.
“There you are.” Ilya murmurs as he buries his nose in Shane’s hair, taking an audible deep breath.“Do you know how long I have waited to smell you, Shane? To know you fully, just by this?”- Language:

Summary
Over the years he thought maybe, just maybe, being knotted by an alpha semi regularly might change something, like his biology would one day answer Ilya’s despite their ups and downs. He even helped Rozanov through a rut one time, and at the time he thought surely his inner omega would finally respond to his pheromones and the teeth shaped bruises on his nape that almost resembled mating bites and give him a heat.
But nothing.
Heats are the last thing on his mind right now though. Ilya is spending two weeks with him at his cottage, alone. Completely and utterly alone. Together.__________________________
Omega Shane has never had a heat. Over the years, he has given up on expecting to have one, but when he spends two weeks with alpha Ilya in the comfort of his cottage, something unexpected happens: he is thrown head first into his very first heat. Luckily, Ilya is there to help.

Summary
Shane Hollander had it all. Until he didn't.
Because he could see it there, in Ilya’s gaze as he prowled across the room. That awareness that everything was different, that everything was wrong, that everything was ruined.
Because Shane Hollander was a fucking omega and, in the work of an instant, with a single, stupid burst of perfume, the decades he’d spent trying to hide his designation—the diets, the bruising physicality, the stress—all of it was for fucking nothing.

Summary
Nothing feels right or good. Not the weight of his pads or the glide of his skates over fresh ice. Not the crispness of the rink air or the roar of a sold out Montreal crowd. Not his teammates’ triumphant shouts when he sinks a goal or cool water in his throat after a hard workout or well wishing texts from his parents before every game. It’s all just… faded.
Grey.
Empty.
Shane doesn’t know how to bring color back into his life. Not when he leeched it out himself with every step he took away from the only person who has ever truly, honestly seen him.
