Laudna’s cursed or evil, if rumours are to be believed. Her dæmon is unsettled, and as unsettling as she is. Maybe he always will be. But maybe the way souls appear is not how they are, Imogen thinks, because she’s never met anyone better than that strange pair.
A chance encounter at the start of the school year takes them across the country and years as they figure out who they are, to themselves and to one another.

Imogen didn’t know where she was. She had to focus on the where of it all, couldn’t contemplate the nagging fear that where should not be her greatest concern. She didn’t think about the unstable marvel of Ashton’s brain. She didn’t think about her body moving out of time with itself. To even consider it was impossible.
