“Gwyndolin?” She asked, and Dolly froze, then looked up at her with eyes large and wet with tears. Her lips were pressed in a thin line, though the bottom one wrinkled with sobs, and her brow was twisted.
“I- I’m fine,” she said quickly, scrubbing at her face. “Don’t worry about me, Vera.” Dolly gritted her teeth in something like a smile, but the tears began leaking from her eyes again. Gwynevere sighed dramatically and made a big deal of glancing over her shoulder, before ducking under the stairwell with her.

“I’ll give you a better one, my Lord,” Martyn says lightly, elbowing Ren’s side gently. The King yelps in surprise. “Let’s say these walls fall down,” he gestures in front of them, in the direction of Etho’s ruined castle, and beyond. “We break through them – we can bring Etho and Bigb too – and we flee. No more Dogwarts, no more Red King.” He pauses, then glances up at Ren. “Not that I don’t want Dogwarts – I don’t mean – of course I’ll still follow-”
Ren cuts him off with a warm hand on his shoulder, a grin crossing his face. One fang peeks from under his lip as he smiles lightly. Martyn clears his throat.
“What then?” He asks simply, not quite trusting himself to further spin the fantasy.

Neither of them have the best track of time. Philza is millennium old, and days pass in the blink of an eye. Weeks are a trifle. Wilbur is just downright busy: travelling, falling in love, founding a nation, and running it. A week will pass, and he won’t notice until he needs to write the date. Their correspondence is slow, but constant, an unshakable connection between father and son.
Until one day, it’s not.

Summary
Blue dye, blue wool, blue streets, blue hands, blue heart. It was all the ghost had known, and it’s all the husk left from his resurrection can dwell on. Sometimes other colors flash by, hints and teases of who he once was, all muted and mellowed by the blue that hides beneath his skin. Friend loves him, loves his specific shade of blue, but it can see how he lets the tide of blue thoughts consume him in their spiral. Friend’s purpose seems to be as essential as ever, regardless of whether its friend is bright and cheerful and translucent or heavy and morose. Friend knows that it’s the only one who really stops to listen to him, and that it has long since promised Wilbur wouldn’t have to deal with things alone. It’s not backing down from that promise anytime soon.

His breaths were coming short and fast, and he forced himself to steady it with the ease of practice even through his anxiety, counting out breaths with a mechanical rhythm. If he was careful, he could manage without the mask long enough to get it back.

Or: Jimmy's mask is a bit more important than he pretends it is. When Fwhip takes it, he's left struggling to breathe and with very limited time.
