He turned, his eyes wide, but still not meeting the creature’s. “You’re not Viktor. You’re a thing I made to replace him. A mistake. And I will not... I will not give myself to you.”
The creature’s breath grew deeper, heavier, as though it were savoring every word. Then, Viktor’s voice broke through the tense silence, quiet but laced with something that made Jayce’s skin crawl.
“I won’t be replaced. Not by anyone, Jayce. Not by a bride, or a companion, or a memory. I will be with you on your wedding night. I will be waiting for you.”
