He regrets the words the moment they come out of his mouth. But that other, older Spock said that he needed to get command of the ship, and to do so, must get his younger counterpart to acknowledge his emotions. Spock is not the first Vulcan Jim has had dealings with, and he can think of few things that would get T’pri as riled up as quickly as insinuating that she doesn’t love him.
He gambles that Spock is the same about his mother, and it pays off.
(Or, the one where Jim has a Vulcan daughter, and it leads to all sorts of emotions.)

The winter has always been rather hard on Viktor.
Yes, the snow and frost bite into his fingers, and his cane slips on ice-slick ground, and he has to walk even slower than usual, and yes it seems as though he is permanently in a state of hypothermia, but truthfully there is even a permanent chill in the tips of Viktor’s fingers in the height of summer, and truthfully Viktor knows physical discomfort well— there is more than that. There is a yearly, omnipresent reminder of the state of his heritage, his family, of his isolation— a cruel, city-wide boast of a warmth Viktor was not lucky enough to be born into. There is the winter holiday.
This year is much the same— a permeating chill seeping into every space he can find, lights and posters and songs celebrating something he has never had and may never have, a dorm room that is barren of Christmas and almost worse than the celebrations beyond his windowsill. This year is much the same, except for one thing. This year, there is Jayce.

Nicky would like to go over to where Joe's nursing his chai latte and get rid of Booker. And it has nothing to do with the fact that Nicky's getting a vibe from Joe, which means the odds of Booker being Joe's boyfriend have started going down. It's not like Nicky thinks there's anything wrong with Booker, per se, but just as a personal opinion, he thinks he and Joe would make a better couple. Or at least, they'd look much more aesthetically pleasing.

Nicky shrugged, and tucked some wild strands of hair behind his ear. “You will be lucky if it is not more. What did you think would happen? It is almost November, of course it is snowing.”
Joe glared at him. He didn’t plan for this. He wasn’t some mountain man, who knew the patterns of these finicky storms in the late autumn Alps. Oh, Andy was going to kill him. But, on the bright side, Joe was going to get that vacation he asked for. Only now it came with a cramped, yet begrudgingly cozy cottage, and a scruffy-looking Italian named Nicolo.
(Or Joe’s unfortunate road trip through the Alps, featuring a rugged mountain-man Nicky.)
