The weight of memories can't be quantified, but it's felt anyways. The pressure persists, and there really only ever were two options Keith knew of how to deal with it - push the memories away and let that pressure build until it threatens to burst, or be buried under them with no way to dig himself out.
But maybe, maybe, there's another option. One he'd never thought of. One he could find together with Lance.
Because life goes on, no matter how strongly the past nips at your heals. Maybe sometimes you need to let the past fall away, let it go - and maybe, sometimes, you need to face it.

A rattle broke through the quiet of the room, and he frowned drowsily, muttering to himself about space mice and curfews. The rattle came again however, louder this time, accompanied with a sound like something sliding across the floor. It was enough to prickle the senses that had been slowly relaxing, enough to make Hunk crack his eyes open to stare up at the ceiling above.
The room was dark, and it took a while for his eyes to adjust. Once they were open, however, he couldn't quite get them closed again, no matter how sleep pulled at him. The unease from before was returning, but it was different this time, somehow more raw. It felt like when he was in the middle of a mission, about to head into a situation he couldn't predict, the unknown looming heavy and frightful over him. "Series

It was supposed to be a simple mission for Keith and Lance - get in, scout weird underground base, and get out. With the lack of any biological signatures, they’d assumed the base was abandoned and empty.
It wasn’t.
Now Keith was badly injured and could not move on his own, and Lance needed to get him and get out before anything worse can happen - all while avoiding the strange and luminescent creatures that seemed to only exist in the corners of their eyes. Their soft, surreal beauty belied a dangerous nature - as Keith had discovered - and the only way they could survive was to get out without waking them from their drifting lethargy.(Part of the Klance Big Bang 2017)

Lance stared up at the ceiling light and thought, not for the first time in the past half hour, that that had not exactly been worth it.Sighing, he switched hands on the dishrag he was holding to his upper thigh and tried to figure out where he'd gone wrong.
Somewhere between pulling his new knife out of the package and admiring its smooth lines, and ending up sitting on the kitchen floor with his pants around his knees and his thigh leaking blood onto the tile, no doubt - but the actual moment eluded him.
