He was the same, obviously. Immortality aside, it’d only been a month.
Your greeting stuttered in your throat, but your friend saw you, hugged you. You locked your gaze on David through the hug, the way one might keep an eye on a prowling grizzly bear for any sudden movement, caught frozen. Did they say to play dead for grizzly bears? You couldn’t imagine that would deter him from digging in.

Billy Black cleared his throat, looking at me pointedly.
I shrunk in my seat, begging the spirits to tear me apart right then and there, and dropped the phone face down on my stomach.
A deep, throaty chuckle sounded next to me, and a leather jacket draped over my legging clad legs. "You looked cold," Paul said, cheeky with a knowing smile. The collar popped up with enough space to easily hide my phone as I typed out all of my questions.
"Thank you," I whispered, cheeks burning at the swirling mirth in his eyes of molten dark chocolate. Breath stalled in my throat as I tried again to pay attention to the stories. But with him sitting next to me in a lawn chair, close enough to touch, difficult couldn't even begin to describe how hard it was to pay attention.
