“I made a promise, Frodo,” gasped Sam, chest heaving for breath. His precious golden curls were now light brown and dripping, plastered to his forehead. “A promise. ‘Don’t you leave him, Samwise Gamgee.’”
Frodo inhaled, but the air did not quite reach his lungs, as they collapsed upon themselves—almost as if he had just been drowning. Sam had said those words before, amongst Farmer Maggot’s corn back in the Shire, and Frodo had only smiled then, an affectionate and gentle thing. Now, though—now, Gandalf was dead, and Sam was still listening to him.
“And I don’t mean to.” Sam’s voice cracked, his head tilting and wet forehead wrinkling. “I don’t mean to.” He swallowed, and his mouth quivered like it always did before he started crying, before Frodo reached out and pulled him into his arms, sheltering him from the world.
Frodo’s throat constricted, and the presence of the ring against his chest was not the only thing burning, his blood set aflame and his heart swelling, soaring to heights even Gandalf’s eagles couldn’t achieve.
“Oh, Sam,” he breathed, choked; and then he kissed him.

He reached up to adjust his scarf again, some of the tightness in his chest settling at the sensation of the familiar fabric. Days like this were always terrible for him; the days where all he could think about were the men he’d lost, where all he could hear were their screams as they were ruthlessly slaughtered, where all he could see was the blood pooling from their bodies. Not to mention the smell that had never left him… the smell of corpses, strewn all about him, overwhelming him to the point that he felt like he was suffocating.
This time, his thoughts had apparently decided to torture him on both Wind and Time, and they weren’t giving up, despite the fact that they’d done their job and made Warriors’s mental health deteriorate within less than two hours.
Suffice it to say, Warriors was of the opinion that whoever invented trauma deserved to go fuck themself.

The king was convinced that if Merlin wasn’t as stupidly loyal to Arthur as he was, the sorcerer would’ve killed him long before now.

Because Shane was always going to go first. How must it have felt, to look upon her son and see those words, and know with complete certainty he would go first? Maybe it was better, having as vague of a word as Ilya did on his chest. At least he couldn’t think about it, couldn’t imagine scenarios in which it could be said.
“I assume,” Yuna said, pausing to take a deep breath as though to steel herself, “he said yours last night.”

Summary
The second Shane hit the ice, Ilya knew something was wrong. Bood didn’t mean to hit him, it was a clean play and an even cleaner hit. A regular hockey hit. But the way Shane landed and slid into the boards, seeing the blood but not knowing where it was coming from, had Ilya’s heart stopping. Even now, almost three hours later, it didn’t feel like his heart had started again. He could hear Bood in the bed next to him asking him something, but all he could do was refresh the tab ‘shane hollander injury update’ and hope some news article somehow leaked information. He knew he didn’t actually want that to happen because Shane deserved privacy, but he was dying inside not knowing if his boyfriend was okay.

All Shane knew was he was in pain, the medication wasn’t masking it, and he needed Ilya. His parents were both in the room, as was Hayden, doing their best to figure out how to get ‘ily to the hospital.

“There is this club. Here in Boston. It is queer club, but secret. No phones, sign NDA beforehand. The cover charge is high, so is more– more exclusive.” He says this nonchalantly, gesturing to the air. He looks up and makes eye contact with Shane. “We could go.” Shrugs. “Together.”
Shane stares at him, mouth open slightly. He waits for the punchline, like Rozanov is setting up some ridiculous joke. Rozanov just stares back at him, almost as if he isn’t breathing. It takes Shane a second to realize that he is being serious, and the earnestness of the invitation nearly brings him to his knees.
“Ilya Rozanov,” Shane grins. “Are you asking me out on a date?”
