I turned to face the Target, ready to threaten them if they were dumb enough to stick around instead of taking the opportunity to run. The words died in my throat. The hood had fallen back, and without the piece of fabric that Gurathin had stolen, the Targets face was completely unobscured. I sent ART a query to make sure I wasn’t seeing things. ART responded almost instantly that my eyes and my drones were working fine. Also yes, it was seeing this too.
The problem was. That was Gurathin’s face looking up at me from where I’d just tossed the Target. The same Target that I’d just thrown off of Gurathin. Which was… disturbing… Last I checked, there was only supposed to be one of him.
(Gurathin has a chaotic and violent reunion with his brother. ART and Murderbot watch with metaphorical popcorn in the feed. Everybody has a stressful time, but alls well that ends well right?)

“ Maybe I would be less annoyed had it not been brought up a subjective one million times (and an objective two dozen) how it was “nice to have everyone back together” on a “peaceful survey this time”. Ratthi had made sure to comment that for all that the first survey had been a “total nightmare” it was “worth it to have met you SecUnit!” That had given me the same melty feeling in my chest that I’d gotten when Mensah had told me she saw me “as a person just trying to help” back on that first survey together.
I was trying not to think about that though. Not that, or the way my drones captured Ratthi’s grin when he’d spoken. Or any of the melty and soft feelings my humans gave me sometimes. But especially not Ratthi. Because if I thought about him at all, I’d have to think about his blood on my face.”
Set in a mix of the Book Universe & the TV Universe, Murderbot and the PresAux crew are on another planetary survey mission. Everything is peaceful until it isn’t and Murderbot gets trapped in a nightmarish Time Loop like something out of one of its serials. Murderbot is hellbent on saving its humans and breaking free of the loop whatever it takes.

Summary
There are a lot of security cameras. Usually that means very bad things, especially for secret human spies and their murderbot accomplices. Was I an accomplice? I planned the whole thing. Maybe the mastermind would be better. I knew Gurathin would take issue with that—because that made him the accomplice to a terrifying murderbot, rather than the one in control, and I knew how much it annoyed Gurathin 1. not to be in control, and 2. admit that I was right.

Gurathin was, at this point, extremely used to SecUnit pinging him for access to his augments, but it was much, much more rare for it to ping him to offer access to its own inputs. He trusted it completely, though, so when he received this offer, he accepted it without a second thought.
This was, in retrospect, a mistake to do in a public place.
