I drop the hammer to the ground and wipe my forehead, turning towards him. He’s still standing very straight, arms crossed over his chest, his eyes almost closed. The moonlight casts an elongated shadow of his body deformed by the shape of the sheaths at his hips. He’s not asking.

“You fight dirty,” you bite. You wipe your swollen lip with your hand and spare a glance at the blood. “Didn’t take you as a hair pulling kind of guy.”
Levi scoffs. “You should know there’s no such thing as fighting dirty. You lose, you die,” Levi snaps back, ironically from underneath the hold you have on him. Your forearm presses hard against his chest, sliding dangerously close to his neck to obstruct his windpipe. You’re surprised you even have him pinned given how the fight was going.
Your eyes catch the way he licks his bottom lip. His lips shine as they part when he exhales, and in your moment of distraction, he seals his thighs around your hips and flips you over, roles completely reversed. You grunt at the impact of being knocked into the ground with his forearm, and blink up stupidly at those stupid grey eyes again.
“Dead,” he says with a little twitch of his lips.

Recognition and praise were never things you looked for when you landed targets perfectly between the eyes. Somehow, that changes when you meet the grumpy capo who never seems impressed by anything you do.
