Summary
"I'm not your God, Stede," Ed said stiffly, feeling deeply uncomfortable both with the subject matter at hand and with the sudden tightness of his trousers.
"No, you're not," Stede said, head slightly bowed, eyes cast upward, meeting Ed's gaze from beneath his lashes. Ed forgot to breathe for a moment, enchanted by the dance of candle flame over Stede's skin and the heat radiating from his gaze. "But there is a connection there. You see, my God is love." He raised his hands to rest on Ed's thighs, fingers firm atop the leather. "And expressing that love"-- Stede's voice pitched even lower, his hands raking slowly up and down Ed's legs--"is holy."

“Yes, darling?”
Stede’s tone was soft, comfortable. He seemed ready for a quiet night of rest and relaxation. Ed almost felt bad to disturb his peace with his questioning. But he was determined and, above all, curious.
“How was it, you know… Being with your wife?”
basically Ed trying to seduce Stede and succeeding. soft gay sex ensues.

Summary
“What if I told you the Edward you loved died on that dock?” He asks, a frightened animal, biting, growling. “That Blackbeard’s all that’s left, now.”
“I’d say they’re one and the same and I love them both.” He can feel Stede’s tears dripping onto his skin and they burn like candle wax, like hot oil for all they pain him to feel. “Even if they hate me.”
"What if I sent you away?"
"I wouldn't go."

Stede manages to be everywhere at once; his mouth pressed to the bird on Ed’s shoulder, his toes tracing the tattoo curving up his calf muscle, his fingers wrapped loosely around Ed’s wrist.
“I should quite like you immortalised in a portrait,” Stede murmurs against his skin. “Not Blackbeard, not the Dread Pyrate. You, Edward. Every inch of you, laid out beautifully like this.”

Summary
Stede finds the house. When he comes back to their room at the inn, he won’t rest—won’t let Ed rest—until Ed’s seen it. His eyes are bright in that way that makes Ed’s guts feel scooped out with a spoon. So Ed hurries into his boots and goes with him.
The once-white paint is stripped by weather and wear, a portion of the roof is caved in, and the spokes of the wraparound porch are all gnawed through by animals.
Ed gazes up at the broken windows and the birds that have built nests there. At his side, Stede is waiting, rocking back and forth on his heels.
"It’s perfect," says Ed.

Summary
“You’ll regret this, you know,” the prisoner says mildly.
“Will I?” Captain Dawson asks, more amused than anything by the threat. Nothing but simple cliché. “And who is going to make me — you?”
The prisoner drops his hand and carefully wipes the blood off his palm onto his breeches. “Each man must be responsible for his own destiny.”
Captain Dawson stares at his strangely peaceful countenance, pure in conviction while the cut at his bicep still bleeds sluggishly into his dirtied simple cotton shirt, the fabric peeling back to reveal pale skin, unmarked by any ink.
“Right,” he says, unimpressed, and turns on his heel.

Summary
Salvage diver Ed Teach is no stranger to the story of Blackbeard and the Queen Anne's Revenge- after all, the famous pirate is a distant ancestor. But then Professor Stede Bonnet, maritime archaeologist and many-times-great-grandson of the original, waltzes through the door of his shop and requests his services in finding the wreck. What are the odds?
Ed's had enough of the cutthroat world of salvage diving, and he's this close to leaving it all behind. But Bonnet's quest sparks an interest he hasn't felt in years, and he agrees to help the oddly charming man. Nothing to do with the fact that the Queen Anne might just be the last treasure trove Ed needs to escape his life. Definitely nothing to do with the way Bonnet's cheerful enthusiasm makes his heart skip a beat.
Together they'll hunt for the wreck... and then they'll reckon with what comes next.
