Summary
Dean Winchester and Castiel Novak were inseparable friends growing up in the too-small town of Heaven Falls, New York. But that all comes apart when, on the verge of leaving for college, Castiel tells Dean that he's in love with him. Dean doesn't say those three words back, so Castiel leaves, and builds a life as an attorney in Manhattan, where he convinces himself he has all the success and happiness he ever wanted.
Decades later, Castiel's brother dies in a tragic accident, and Castiel finds himself returning to Heaven Falls, and to everything he thought he'd left behind. A chance meeting in a bar leads to Dean making a confession to Castiel - he had always felt the same way, but was just too scared to say it. Cas is back from the Empty, and things are fine. Dean told Cas he loves him too, but also that he doesn’t want to be more than friends. (Which is a lie, but seems like the safer choice if he wants to keep Cas for the long haul this time.)
Since things are completely fine, it shouldn’t be an issue for Dean and Cas to investigate a mysterious death together. There’s just one problem: in the course of their investigation, they meet a woman who can tell truth from lies every single time. Will the woman’s apparently impeccable “bullshit detector” pick up on what Dean really wants? And will Dean and Cas be able to find the monster before it kills again?

Summary
Dean has been quietly pining after his neighbor Cas for years, but as a vampire, he can’t exactly make friends with mortals — let alone date them. He’s pretty much resigned himself to admiring Cas from a distance.
Everything changes the day Dean falls off a ladder during some routine home maintenance and breaks his leg. Cas is the one who finds him, and he insists on taking care of Dean after he gets home from the hospital — never mind the fact that by the time Dean’s home, his leg is all healed.
Cas, obviously, can never know.
Castiel has admired his neighbor Dean for years. Unfortunately, being a witch, it would be unwise for him to pursue a relationship with a mortal. Still, when Dean is injured in a fall, he can’t help wanting to take care of the object of his affections.
If only he could tell Dean the truth.

So he says, Hey, Cas, get the fuck over here, if Cas strays too far. He says, Damn it, Cas, if Cas takes a step too deep into the woods without him, and then he yanks, takes the angel by the hand, brings him closer and closer, and with hands on Cas' hips, he guides him.
And then eventually, the true hunger of purgatory gets to Dean.

The seat squeaks, and Dean follows the sound, his gaze trailing down. There—where Jack sat moments ago—is a much tinier version of him. He looks mostly the same, just...smaller and more dimply and cuter, if that's possible. His clothes have shrunk to fit him, so he's casually sitting in a t-shirt, jeans, and scuffed tennis shoes. He swings his feet from side-to-side over the edge of Baby's seat the same way Sam used to in the back, and he stares up at Dean with clear eyes.
"Oh," Dean blurts out, eyes bulging, "Cas is going to fucking kill me."

“I must press upon you the importance of this opportunity, Castiel,” Mick says, still watching Cas intently. “And quite frankly, I'm looking forward to working closely with you.”
Sam's eyes widen, and he twists around on mere reflex alone, grabbing Dean before he can launch himself at Mick. Dean slams into him, but he's too angry to be thinking clearly, so Sam manages to wrestle the gun from Dean's hands before he can do something he'd regret later. Now is not the time for caveman tendencies, nor is it the place to stake his claim. Dean lets out a real, genuine growl, face pinched in fury.
God, Sam can't wait to tease him about this later.
