“You’re doing an amazing thing here,” Lancelot said apropos of nothing as he handed Merlin a nail.
“It’s hardly amazing,” Merlin scoffed, concentrating on fixing the wooden beam in place. “I used to fix my mother’s roof all the time when I was little.”
“I mean here.” Lancelot gestured back to the house. “These children would have nowhere to go if you didn’t take them in.”
“Oh I don’t really do much,” Merlin said with a wave of his hand. “I just pop by every now and then to say hello. Mary does all the work.”
Merlin concentrated back on the roof. Anything not to look into Lancelot’s proud and warm eyes.He couldn’t explain to wonderful, pure Lancelot why he didn’t deserve any praise. Taking in these children, helping them to grow up safe and fed, it was the least he could do after all the destruction he had caused in Camelot.

SPOILERS FOR BRAND NEW DAY!!!!!!
It started like this. He’d been in the city for the day when everything went black. As if his entire conscious existence had been snapped out like a light. And then he was back, gasping for air without knowing why he lost it in the first place. It was almost as if he had blinked; a temporary brain freeze had it not been for the screams outside and the emergency sirens wailing in the distance. That and his crappy cup of coffee had gone cold.
It continued with movie night; his comment about the kid's love for Star Wars slipping out almost without him noticing; and to be dreadfully honest, he may not have even caught it himself had it not been for Morgan’s innocent, albeit confused question of “who’s Pete” that followed.
It finds him barreling into the too small ICU unit a few hours later after a hasty explanation to his wife and an adrenaline-fueled apology to his daughter; his brain looping between three distinct facts:
Critical condition.
Spider-Man.
Peter.
Oh god.
(Or Frank Castle really just wants to know why Tony Stark is in Spider-Man's hospital room looking like he's seen a ghost.)

Sam pushed back on the part of him that was giddy anytime his nephews thought of Bucky as their uncle. There were more important things to worry about right now.
“Well, you know he’s been through a lot before he came here and it’s….”
“Not that,” Cass cut him off, pulling away slightly to look his uncle in the eye. “Like I mean something is really wrong right now. We were playing by the docks and he got a phone call. I don’t know who it was but whoever it was scared him. He made a weird sound and then threw it in the river.”
“Threw what in the river?”
“His phone.”
“He threw his phone in the river?!”
“Yeah,” Cass nodded like he was fully aware of just how crazy that sounded. “Just tossed the whole thing in the river and then tried to keep playing like that was totally fine.”
Sam blinked. So that was… not normal.
Or the time that Sam, and Bucky, realized that there was more to Bucky's family than just the Wilsons.
