With no big brother at his side (until its too late obviously), and no time to do the job he was an expert at (research), he and his dad head up a mountain which was hiding a sinister secret in the darkness of the night and end up facing an evil that will stop at nothing until they are in the ground. Bloody. Again, did he mention the complete lack of a big brother in all of this?

Summary
Viktor watches it all, and even though he knows most of it is a game, a play into appearances and people’s egos, a grand show of smoke and mirrors, it’s still an arrow straight to his heart to witness just how much Viktor is holding Jayce back by the mere act of standing next to him. His presence corrupts his partner’s image like mold in the corner of a picture-perfect portrait, and people can’t look past it, can’t ignore it. They see Jayce, and on the edge of his greatness, they see Viktor, hanging back and trying to slip under the radar, but he’s still there, a reminder that decay touches even the most beautiful things.

Summary
Dean Winchester’s been camp manager of a science research station on the Alaskan tundra for thirteen years. Dean likes his job; fixing the camp trucks, troubleshooting the generators, keeping clueless undergrads and NSF bigwigs from walking into grizzly bears or getting lost in snowstorms — it’s all in a day’s work. It keeps him pretty busy, and this year his brother Sam's visiting too, so he's even busier. So it’s really not any of Dean’s business when some weirdo antisocial ornithologist sets up a tent a few miles away, a dark-haired blue-eyed guy who’s doing a “very long-term" study on birds or wings or something, and who never, ever takes off his big lumpy backpack. But then the new guy starts dropping by camp for coffee and... well, he’s not officially part of camp; he's not Dean’s responsibility; he’s really not Dean’s problem at all, but when a strange blizzard comes sweeping in, Dean gets worried and goes to check. Thing is, Dean's spent years in the sweeping vistas of the Arctic. He knows all about the midnight sun and the northern lights, the ice caves and avalanches, the rough-and-ready Haul Road truckers and the even rougher-and-readier wild animals. But even so, what he finds is much more than he bargained for.

Summary
It has been twelve years since Sam went missing. Twelve years of searching and coming up empty each and every time. The Winchester's know who is responsible for the kidnapping: the Yellow-Eyed demon. Everyone has given up on the hope that Sam will return to them.
Everyone but Dean.
Which is why, when a nearby town is discovered barren apart from the bodies of people who had gone missing years before, all children who could be linked back to the demon Azazel, Dean knows that Sam is involved.
One thing Dean knows for sure: he is going to get his brother back, one way or another.
TLDR: Sam was taken by Azazel as a child and has been raised alongside of Azazel's other "children" for many years before reappearing.

Summary
It is the spring of 1999. Sam has just turned sixteen, and is in the tiny town of Moses Lake, Washington with twenty-year-old Dean. After finding reports of a haunting, John sends the boys to hunt on their own, as an early birthday gift to Sam, promising meet up with the boys after his own hunt and to let Sam finish out his sophomore year at the same school once the hunt is complete. Settling in, Sam and Dean begin to prepare for the hunt, but quickly find out that there is more to the small town than meets the eye. Dark forces circle the boys, friendly townsfolk hide more than meets the eye, and opposing sides in an ancient war make the first moves in a long foretold plan. Naturally, Sam and Dean are caught right in the eye of the storm, and must work together to escape some of the worst kinds of monsters they have come across in their long, storied career of hunting.
