“I wish I knew what you looked like,” D-Dean says and he’s interrupting the voice on phone. The man’s in the middle of explaining something—something about him becoming human (isn’t he human already?), something about an asshat named Dean who threw him out onto the streets, something about why Castiel’s always afraid, always wary not to stay too long even though he wishes that he could.
But Dean doesn’t know what it means.
The man’s voice is quiet, quiet a lot, but he says, “There’s a family picture in Sam’s phone.”
It takes him a while, a lot of Cas explaining to him who Sam is (he forgot again), a lot of explaining that yes, his name’s Dean and that he’s not Sam. A lot of explaining, a lot of whispered things that are gentle and make Dean feel good.
But then he finally sees the picture.

Dean nods, brushing a hand along her shoulder. Turning her more completely towards Cas, oblivious at the bar. He's finally gotten the server's attention and he's explaining the order, four fingers raised and his thumb tucked against his palm.
"I just want him to…" Dean pretends to struggle for the words. "Get to experience all the fun the world has before… y'know? Get to feel the— get to feel desired, I guess. Like someone wants him."
"I'm sure he does, you seem like a great friend," she tells him. Dean smiles, sharp.

Cas always wants touch. At least from Dean. He doesn’t say so. “It frustrates me how much good and bad I can feel at the same time.”
“Oh, buddy,” Dean says. “Yeah.”
(After the perfect darkness of the Empty, Cas finds the world a little...overwhelming. Dean tries to help.)

Set days after the events in Shadow (1.16), Dean and Sam are trying to get as far from Chicago as they can when an unexpected and yet familiar arrival throws their world into disarray. Dean didn't ask for a glimpse into his and Sam's future, and he's still not sure he wants one, especially not when his future self starts talking about angels and miracles, like either of those things could possibly exist.
"Okay, let's say you're right. Let's say at some point I'm going to travel into the past, meet myself, and then force myself to take a cross-country road trip with myself so that I can find some dude I refuse to talk about. The hell, Sam? Does any of that make sense?"

It's all surprisingly normal, until Wilson's character kisses House's character. In game, which, of course, means nothing.
A season six fix it about the magic that is having a support system larger than one (1) person and the uncanny ability of roleplaying games to make you realize you aren't as straight as you always assumed. (Knowledge about DnD not required.)
