Less than a week before Christmas is not a great time to realize you really need to get your best friend and work partner-turned romantic partner another present.
The thing is, Sam got Bucky’s presents months ago. One of them because it required some time to be made, and the other because Sam had gone on a late-night online shopping spree a while back. But that was before he and Bucky took the next step into an actual romantic relationship, and also before Bucky’s psychic power kicked in, and suddenly the handmade knitted blanket and books Sam’s already got neatly packed and wrapped, hidden in a closet in Sarah’s house, don’t seem like enough.
When your partner's got a psychic power that works by touch, the personal touch seems a hell of a lot more important in a gift. After all, Sam knows Bucky can quite literally feel that personal touch and everything it entails. That means Sam needs to make him a last-minute, handmade gift, and hope like hell that Bucky will get good vibes from it.

Summary
Six months after the whole mess with the Flagsmashers, Bucky’s life is going pretty well, apart from the headaches. Sam is Captain America, Bucky’s his right-hand man both in the field and in the apartment they now share, and they’re slowly but surely working on getting the Avengers up and running again. For the first time in longer than Bucky can remember, he’s—well, not quite happy, but he’s content. Except for the goddamn headaches.
When Bucky’s headaches turn out to be something stranger and more serious than either he or Sam could have ever foreseen, their evolving partnership and the fledgling team they’re struggling to build are tested by a mission and a mystery that have painful roots in Sam's own recent history. If they're going to get through this, Bucky is going to have to accept a new power, Sam's going to need to learn what coming to the rescue looks like now that he's Cap, and they're both going to have to trust in a partnership that could become something more.

Sam sighed, gently lifting the flap on the box. A chorus of mews erupted, and Sam’s eyes widened as he lifted the flap completely, staring inside. “Bucky, there are—” he counted silently, his eyes getting larger— “six cats in here.”
“Kittens,” Bucky said, picking one up, a pure white kitten with blue eyes that rivaled his own, scratching between its ears as he cuddled it against his chest.
“Do you even know how to take care of kittens?” Sam asked. A fluffy tabby cat had gotten a hold of the edge of the box, and Sam caught it just before it flopped out onto the floor. It gazed up at him with wide yellow eyes, mewing loudly and flexing it’s little paws.
It is kind of cute, he thought, and then, No. Be strong.
“We can Google it?” Bucky asked, and Sam couldn’t help but laugh.

Summary
Things were okay.
Well, not okay. Sam’s team was suing Valentina to smithereens to change her team’s name, and most of the New Avengers, Walker especially, beefed with him because of it. They beefed with Bucky, too, sometimes, for doing nothing to stop his partner’s lawsuit. But at home, things were okay, and that’s what mattered.
The thing is, Sam and Bucky weren’t home right now. Instead of having a cozy movie night as they’d planned, they had both spent the past two hours leading their respective people in minimizing the threat of a dimensional rift that had been ripped open in the Hudson River.
In spite of their efforts to avoid interaction between their two groups, in emergencies like this, it was a no-brainer. They were stronger united than divided.
Or at least, that’s what Bucky had said to pacify Walker’s whining complaints about the situation.-
Bucky gets a migraine after a rare New Avengers joint mission with Captain America and Falcon. Sam feels their work and home lives momentarily blur together.
