Without even realizing he is doing so, Sami loses his train of thought to the music, and a soft smile creeps across his face involuntarily, fond warmth growing in his chest. It brings such joy to hear this sound, Charlie’s music just flowing out of him without so much as a thought, easy as breathing. There were dark days once, when he thought he might never hear this sound again. When he didn’t even dare to hope.
Then the tune bumps to a halt as Charlie stops to mutter a curse at something stubborn he’s scrubbing, and Sami jolts back to himself and the paper in his hand. He remembers Etta’s words again, about risk and rejection and putting yourself on the line for what you want. About taking a chance.
