Henry watched the two of them carefully, obviously trying to keep up with the conversation, and not for the first time, Alex wished he had a better grasp at British Sign Language.
“OH!” Antonio exclaimed as he looked back at Henry. “He’s the man you’re learning the funny hands for!”

Summary
Honestly, the costume makes no sense, seeing as the haunted house Alex waves people into resembles neither a circus nor a house. It's some slap-shod mom-and-pop maze on an acre of property usually reserved for a kitschy, family-friendly pumpkin patch, called Haunt-O-Stroll (name pending). When the permits fell through for hayrides, the owners converted the paths into a walking route next to old shacks, overgrown hedges, and the half-dismantled backdrops from the local high school's production of Beetlejuice.
Alex had asked during his job interview—they insisted on conducting them, even if he didn't hear of anyone who was actually turned away from the part-time gig—what the theme was. Mr. Richards said scary. Scary is more of a lifestyle than the theme, but Alex didn't correct him. Maybe he should have.
Or: Alex is a scare actor at the local haunted attraction and keeps scaring this one guy who should absolutely not be there (but keeps coming back?)

“Ah yes, eyelashes, truly a formidable instrument in managing international relations.”
Alex grins, and Henry is too late to catch the slightest downward lilt on the corner of his mouth, “Worked on you once, didn’t it?”
Oh, did that ache.
(Much had happened since the time Henry had told Alex to leave. Alex had passed the bar, gotten married, had the most beautiful daughter. And Henry, well. He stayed right where he was.)

“Ah, yes, because you’re so terrifying.” Sapnap mocks him with a smile of his own. Despite his outward show of confidence, Sapnap finds himself twisting that ring again. It’s a comfort on his finger, just slightly heavy and cool from the chill of the weather. A tiny bit of himself feels bad that he just took it where he found it rather than looking for a rightful owner or something, but it just feels so right on his hand. Like it was meant to be there. Sapnap doesn’t really believe in things like that, but if he did he might even call it fate. Dream would probably laugh at him if he ever said that, though. So he won’t.
George just gives him another shrug. “I guess that depends on what you find menacing.”
They reach the Southern gate and George pauses in place. Sapnap takes a step toward it before twisting to George again. His lips curl up and he waves his hand. “I’ll catch you later, George.”
“I’m sure you will.” George waves back to him. Creases sink around his cheeks and eyes as he smiles. He’s got a gorgeous smile.

George loves his job, really, he does! He’s dreamt of it ever since he was a kid, he loves animals and being able to work with them every day, and getting paid to infodump on people? Amazing. Truly, he couldn’t ask for a better job.
However…one of his coworkers drives him up the wall. Particularly the one who does showings at the red panda exhibit. He always waves at George when they clock in with this big goofy grin on his face, and frankly it sickens him.
George finds his coworker, Sapnap, endlessly annoying. Surely that's all there is to it.

Summary
Sapnap waltzes in about a minute before rehearsals starts, grinning cheerfully like he doesn’t even care that he’s the worst soloist in existence, irresponsible and undeserving and downright annoying as he laughs and smiles at everyone except George.
As always, he’s in his typical stupid basketball shorts and anime hoodie combo, and as always George glares at him the whole time he’s unzipping his case, adjusting his shoulder rest, setting his violin back down to shuck off the hoodie, revealing more anime merch and, for a fraction of a second, a sliver of skin.
George wrinkles his nose as Sapnap jogs to his spot, right next to George. He shouldn’t get a chair, in George’s opinion, given that he’ll be standing during the actual performance, but at least he’s dropped the music he’d needed last week, having finally deigned to memorise the piece. He’s the sort of person who would just chug out countless repetitions during an all-nighter to set in the muscle memory. At least said all-nighter wasn’t the night before the concert.

Karl liked it because it was a big city with infinite things to do, never a shortage of sights to see or people to meet. It’s even better than New York, y’know? He said one night, laying in bed with Sapnap, their noses almost touching. Hardly anyone recognizes us here, dude.

Lying flat on his back, Sapnap's brain is flooded with oxygenated blood and he recalls Dream’s request with a clarity that makes him flinch.
He has to write a song. He has to write a love song. He has to write a love song for the guy he’s crushing on to play for the guy who he’s also maybe crushing on. Because they’re boyfriends. And in love. And he’s just the friend who’s so little of a threat it’s fine for him to write out lyrics about being in love.
He can make this a tomorrow problem, surely. Listen to love songs on the drive to school, work out the formula and follow it to the tee during lunch, touch it up and send it to Dream tomorrow night. Easy.
Except obviously he can’t do that.
It’s Dream. It’s George. Its Valentine’s Day and he’s been asked to do something nice for his friends. His friends.
