The second clue is a splash of water- holy water, undoubtedly- tossed in his face before he could even get a word out.

When Stiles wakes up from a nightmare, he almost immediately recognizes that he's simply fallen into another dream. After all, even if he can (maybe) read the letters on his posters and even if the person next to him has exactly ten fingers, it has to be a dream because there is no way in hell that Derek Hale would be willingly lying next to him in bed.

Summary
Charles Rowland has learnt how to be as close to sleeping as possible - something he sorely misses about being a human as it meant he was forced to take breaks from working or end up passing out from exhaustion. If Edwin wasn't in love with Charles he would seriously object to this whole 'sleeping' business, but since he may or may now have a slight obsession with the boy, he can let it slide, even if that means he has tp be poked fun at by Niko and Crystal for being so protective over Charles' unneeded naps.
Aka Charles 'sleeps' on Edwin and when Niko and Crystal come in being loud he scolds them like the protective bf he is.

Charles nods and then immediately stills, doing a decidedly mediocre job at disguising a wince. It’s a motion that makes Edwin’s heart lurch right along with him.
“Are you alright?”
“Yeah.” The words are clipped and, from a few steps closer, Edwin can make out the tension in Charles’ jaw, the subtle rigidity to the way he holds himself. “Course. Just memory shit, innit? Like Crystal warned us.”
“I believe so,” Edwin agrees. Then, much more carefully, “That does not necessarily make it easier to relive. Especially since I have grown used to an intangible form, it is…strange to remember so immediately.”

“Edwin?”, Crystal asks, and Edwin would say something snarky, maybe even something mean, but Charles is wrapped around him like he’ll never let go again, and there are more important matters at hand.
“Crystal, what has happened here?”, he asks, and a few seconds later, their new psychic is standing in front of him, trousers splashed with the coffee she dropped, disbelief written across her face. “I was gone for a few hours and now Charles… and the whole building…”
He’s not quite sure how to put it, most likely because he still doesn’t understand, and Crystal looks at him like he come back from the Cat King’s lair with an additional head.
“Edwin”, she says, slowly, like she is still searching for the words, “what are you talking about? You’ve been gone for six weeks.”____________
Edwin takes the Cat King up on his initial offer, so instead of a few hours, he is gone for six weeks.

Summary
Dream is not coping well post-imprisonment, after he has finally set things to order otherwise following the Vortex. There are unexciting times with migraines, dissociation, and panic attacks galore. Also copious references to sand and glass. Almost like a leitmotif / metaphor, even.
Title from "The Sound of Silence" by Simon & Garfunkel. (Opinion hours: 1964 acoustic version on Wednesday Morning, 3 AM album is the best version. You cannot change my mind.)
The head pains, the sparkling lights, the nausea - they come back. Again. And again. He gets better at hiding the signs, cursing whatever has caused this. He gets better at pretending he's not constantly behind a barrier of glass, that he's free, that he's fine. Dream is constantly behind glass. Stained glass, bloody glass, rounded glass, broken glass, all muffling the world around him, filling his head with cotton. Sometimes he wonders if it was easier being in the glass cage. At least then he didn't have to pretend.

His skin was crawling, and a familiar, all too comforting rage was settling over his shoulders that had him wanting to rip apart all the people involved with his bare hands. But wasn't enough, and there was no one left to fight, no one left to take vengeance on, and what's more, he was not even certain that Dream would want him to.
