Pansy's reputation couldn't achieve that even if she was an heiress. Hermione's fame couldn't help with the elites who refused any change to their 'traditions and old ways'. Not when there was no profit that could be made.
Rita stirred the public's thoughts about the shared success: Is it bribery with the Parkinson Family or was it embezzling—both? Who's to profit from all of this? The elves? OR, is this all just a complete Crumple-Horned Snorkack?
Along with Rita's investigative journalism, Corruption Officer Padma Patil wants to know the truth too. Now even Hermione's chances for Minister were in jeopardy. The two witches double down with their own story and refuse to admit any wrongs. Either their youthful mistakes came back to hold them accountable or somebody betrayed them. It was time for Hermione to face her own faults and for Pansy to let her own go.

Summary
Hermione’s worst nightmare has come true. Her ex-girlfriend, Mira fucking Korning, is running for Minister of Magic. Everywhere Hermione turns, there’s Mira’s smiling face, pledging to do better by their fucking country.
She decides to put it completely out of her mind, until she starts being contacted by Mira’s campaign. Pansy Parkinson, Hermione’s old schoolmate and, apparently, Mira’s campaign manager, wants Hermione, using her status as “Girl Who Helped Harry Potter Save The World” and, of course, “Mira’s Token Minority Ex-Girlfriend”, to help get Mira elected. Hermione would rather die. And then Hermione starts getting letters from Mira’s opponent, asking Hermione if she wants to be his campaign manager, all with the end goal of taking Mira down. And she hasn’t dabbled in politics in years, but honestly, how much different could this be from getting one of Ron’s brothers elected to city council? And, plus, Smith isn’t that bad.
She underestimates how cutthroat Parkinson is, though. And how smart, driven, and passionate, too. Sometimes Hermione just can’t get her out of her head.
