There’s something wrong with Will.
It started three weeks ago, almost four. Will had woken from some sort of nightmare and, instead of seeking comfort in Mike the way he usually would, he’d rolled out a sleeping bag from the closet and chosen to sleep on the floor.
No one believes Mike, except for Joyce. But even she doesn’t understand the full extent to which something is wrong with Will.
Mike understands, though. Mike has been paying attention.

Ignis pulls a whistling kettle off of the stove. Noctis twitches at his side, a threadbare sock tickling his thigh under a heavy knit blanket. Gladio must be nearby, too; Prompto can hear the deep rumble of his voice, sending a shiver down his spine unbidden.
Maybe there’s no one here at all.
He’s lying still enough to be dead, he thinks.
At least he can hardly feel the cold anymore.Prompto can take care of himself. He's mastered the art of it in the years he's spent on his own, carefully weaving a delicate veil of explanations for the prince and his entourage.
He can juggle his classes, his work, and the endless piles of bills in the entryway. He can get by on the meager scraps left for groceries when rent is due.
At least until a frozen pipe and an ever observant advisor make it impossible to keep up the farce.

“Oh, shit,” Noct says, eyes wide, staring not at Prompto’s face but further down. Confused, Prompto follows his gaze. His side’s a mess of blood, ruining his shirt and on its way to ruining his pants as well. There’s blood leaking from his shoulder, too, sticky and warm and dripping down his arm. It makes his hands slippery and he can’t keep a hold of his gun. Or maybe that’s just the numbness he feels spreading through him, adrenaline fading away. Either way, the gun drops from his hand and disappears into the Armiger.
“Oh,” Prompto says, breathless, because he’s been shot. When he sags forward, Noct barely has enough time to catch him.

Summary
An AU where Prompto does not come to Insomnia as an infant. Instead, he is raised in the military to become a Magitek soldier. Psychologically conditioned as part of his training to obey the orders of any superior, the thought of a life outside of the Empire doesn't even occur to Prompto until his first official mission goes wrong.
Noctis sets off to marry Luna with just Ignis and Gladio but things are thrown awry when the peace treaty falls apart and Insomnia falls. Things become even more complicated when a Niflheim sniper unit ambushes Noctis and his friends, leaving only one Nif survivor: an unassuming sniper.

Riko grinning with vicious pleasure as he slices Neil open. Riko’s eyes reflecting the glow of the lighter licking Neil’s skin. Riko laughing as a tattoo gun needle digs into Neil’s cheek.
Riko, Riko, Riko, smothering and impossible to escape. Panic knifes through Neil as he yanks uselessly against the handcuffs. No, no, no —
And then he’s saying it aloud, “No, no, no,” because there isn't a gag cutting into the sides of his mouth. Because Neil isn’t at Evermore. He’s at home with Andrew, who’s right there when Neil opens his eyes — only near the foot of the bed now, not touching Neil at all.
Neil has long gotten used to reading the faint shades of emotion that pass for expressions on Andrew’s face. But never, not even in Andrew's medicated, manically expressive days, has Neil seen Andrew wear anything like his current look of horrified shock.
Neil agrees to try the handcuffs in bed. It goes badly. Cue angst and h/c.
