To be fair, Hiragi arrived too late at the fight to know what exactly had gone down. What he did know upon arriving was that Kaji was hurt.
This in and of itself sadly wasn’t an unusual occurrence. It seemed like Kaji got scraped up in just about every fight he got into. That being said, it was unusual that Kaji seemed to be entirely out of commission, propped up against the alley wall, well behind the protective barrier of his vice captains.

“Now we– store?” He asks, one hand coming up to paw at Taro’s forearm. “Don’t– I don’t have my uniform, sorry. I think– did I forget it?”
It’s nearing ten pm. The store wouldn’t be open even if this were an average work day, and even if it were ten am on an average work day, the store would still be closed, because Shin is running a fever high enough to fry an egg and the rest of their family is worried sick about it.

Honestly, Shin’s not even the one turning the volume dial on other people’s brainwaves. He can direct his ESP, but thoughts with stronger emotions always stick out more to both whoever’s thinking them and Shin, the glint of a dagger in the butter knife drawer. Then it gets stuck in his head. The most recent case is seeing Mafuyu watch his big brother stand up to his father and get smacked across the face with a sound that rang out like an unmuffled gunshot. The kind of hit that’s to send a message, not to complete a job.
Seba Natsuki has never been Shin's first choice for a conversation partner, but there's no one else he can ask about a memory that's been bothering him since the Assassin Exhibition of the Century. Shin wishes that the fact that it's actually Seba's memory is the important bit, but the thing that's really bothering him is that Seba's dad was there too. Shin's dad wasn't in most of his childhood memories except for a few very important ones.
So he has to ask.

It's rather embarrassing that Natsuki's first actual customer — an elementary student buying candy — has to witness him fumbling with the cash register. There are too many buttons and he can't get the cash slot to open, an ERROR displaying each time he tries while the little girl blinks up at him, her pigtails drooping with each passing second. His palms are beginning to sweat. This is somehow worse than presenting his inventions to the board.
Or: Natsuki helps Shin out at the store.

Shin wakes however many hours later, head still pounding, mind still reading, and feeling like he’s about to throw up. Fuck, he thinks as he rushes to the bathroom, it’s not just a headache.
It’s a full-blown migraine.
Once Shin has emptied his stomach of everything it had and then some, he’s left sitting on his bathroom floor. The pulsating has not gotten worse, but it hasn’t gotten better either— he’s still picking up the thoughts of his neighbours, and he almost entertains the thought of silencing them. Almost, but not really. He's read the rulebook cover to back.
