Summary
There’s a pair of eyes above him, silvery and sharp, lined in scarlet. Set in a youthful, handsome face, framed by dark hair and the glint of an earring. A young man. He’s frowning, his palm frigid against Jing Yuan’s forehead.
“There you are,” Jing Yuan whispers.
An immortal dragon finds a fatally injured human within the boundaries of his domain.

Summary
If Stelle’s happy ending had been a resolution to the immediate problem, then what did that say about him? Glazing over the situation at hand in favor of idyllic travels, day after day, world after world, the five of them always present, always laughing, always exploring. Just them, and the Express.
Not just them. If he closes his eyes, he can still see that smile. That golden gaze, focused only on him. He can still taste jasmine.
“What about you?” asks Stelle, her bright eyes unexpectedly shrewd. “What was your dream?”
Ena's Dream leads Dan Heng to a startling realization—but it may have come too late.
Something is wrong with Jing Yuan.

Summary
Recognition bleeds into Dan Heng’s face. Cloud-Piercer dissipates into glowing vapor; then his horns, his long hair. His clothing resolves itself back into the coat and dark shirt Stelle is familiar with, equally damaged, scuffed and bloody and frayed when Stelle has never seen him with so much as a hair out of place.
“Stelle,” he says, and then it’s like all of his strings are cut at once. He falls.
Hoolay takes Dan Heng instead.

Summary
“I told Himeko I would message her when I’m ready to leave,” says Dan Heng quietly. “I can stay for as long as you need me.”
“Oh?” Jing Yuan’s slow blink is decidedly feline.
“Within reason,” Dan Heng quickly amends, flushing.
Jing Yuan goes into rut.

Summary
A storm shrouds Jing Yuan’s shoulders. He smells like wind and lightning, like rain on a sunny day, like dark soil and the life that blooms from it. He smells like… like the Luofu, that very first time Dan Heng stepped into the sunlight, that very first time he beheld the world with his own eyes.
Saliva fills his mouth. His stomach churns now as it did back then, trepidation warring with a longing so sudden and fierce that Dan Heng can’t think of anything else. This feeling—it can’t be anything else.
But then Jing Yuan says, “It’s been a long time, old friend”—and the candlelight in Dan Heng’s chest hisses out.
Jing Yuan and Dan Feng weren't soulmates.
Jing Yuan and Dan Heng are.

Summary
Then he hears a snap; from Jing Yuan’s end, barely audible, but Dan Heng wasn’t lying when he said his hearing has improved. “Did you just screenshot me?”
“Haha,” says Jing Yuan, completely unapologetic. “You’re very cute.”
Dan Heng’s face blazes. His tail swishes, blessedly out of Jing Yuan’s line of sight. “Delete it.”
“It’s the small joys that carry one through long and wearisome stretches of time.”
“Jing Yuan.”
“Dan Heng,” says Jing Yuan lightly. “Let me know if the Astral Express changes course.”
Dan Heng experiences some cat-related side effects. Naturally, this causes a ruckus.

Summary
Jing Yuan is the spark off the tip of Dan Heng’s spear, sharp as the ozone that coats the roof of Dan Heng’s mouth. He has lived in Dan Heng’s dreams for a hundred, two hundred years, ever since Dan Heng raised his head off the stone floor to the cadence of his voice, ever since Dan Heng awoke in darkness to muddled recollections of lavender, of gold, of laughter and liquor and moonlight.
He is the first thing that ever mattered to Dan Heng. He is the first thing Dan Heng ever left behind.

Summary
Maverick unfolds his wings. They stretch out above him like an inky black shroud, baring the skin of his back and the dip of his spine. His primaries brush against Ice’s chest, the dangling tags there, and it’s only because Maverick’s paying attention that he sees the way Ice’s pupils swallow his irises.
“Come closer,” Maverick says.
