Wolfwood reaches into his tunic with his free hand, bangles on his wrists and arms jangling as he does so, and pulls out a small, tattered scroll.
It unrolls to reveal an awful drawing of Vash, but one that’s still undoubtedly recognisable as him. Although the fangs and spiky eyebrows are a bit much, in Vash's opinion. “This is you, is it not? Vash the Stampede—wow, that’s catchy—God of Life. Seems like your brother has a pretty hefty bounty on your head. Anyone who can stop you escaping the Underworld gets a reward.”
“Ah, well, um,” Vash says.
The Underworld is all Vash has ever known. Along with his brother, the God of Death, they rule over the souls of the dead. But after he discovers a troubling secret his brother has kept from him his entire life, Vash is catapulted into the depths of the Underworld in a search for freedom. Along with Wolfwood, a mysterious figure with even more secrets than Nai, they battle their way through every circle of Hell, finding more than they bargained for along the way

Elendira jabs the nail she’s spinning into the desk — hardwood, fancy, expensive — and it makes Legato’s corpse’s card tower tremble. Legato continues to glare at her through the slits of his eyelids. Circling the desk, she comes to a stop by his side and leaves a sticky red handprint on the chair next to his head as she leans into his line of sight.
“Having fun?” she asks sweetly.
“No,” Legato replies. “I’m practicing.”

Summary
He’s heard about it, from other subs who went through it, an aftermath, a body ravaged by greed.
Nothing they’ve told him holds a candle to it. A part of him—already broken, hardly mended—breaks again, the longer he stays there, in between Vash and Legato. His body shakes as he tries to anchor his thoughts. His insides hurt; his skin is rubber stretched too thin. Everything in him bangs against a cage.
But because Vash and Legato were experienced in their ways, because they knew him—in their own ways—they’re able to get him back to his body; to make his heart beat a tune that wasn’t so melancholic. They were able to make it so that Nai was Knives again—not the scared kid who didn’t want to lose his brother.
Once he settles down, he sneaks a glance at Vash, who remains silent, the weight of his hand around Knives’ thighs to ground him.
Vash hadn’t talked to him afterwards. When they were done and Knives was safe, Vash had left again.

"You're the only one I thought was up for the task. Of the ones who still like me, anyways." There was a careful neutrality to the answer that Van found endlessly frustrating.
"What's that say about me, then?" Van joked.
Comfrey laughed humorlessly, finishing up the bandaging process, smoothing the fabric over with her hand before trailing up to skim over Van's shoulder. "It means you're the only one who truly cared."
