Cody gets the news halfway through the night-cycle, roused from an uneasy sleep because his comm device is throwing a fit. He has half a mind to introduce the cheap plastoid casing to the steel wall of his bunk, at some speed. He settles for hitting the display button with more force than currently called for.
The source of the irritating buzz becomes immediately clear. One of his batchmates, the one Cody gets the pleasure of seeing far less than he’d like, is trying to call him, blowing up their private message channel all the while. Cody picks up.“I, ah,” Fox begins. He glances at something behind Cody that the holocall doesn’t pick up. “Might have killed the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic, vod.”

Summary
Even before the war started and the regulations were severely against any form of individuality, Cody had watched as his brothers silently rebelled in their own ways, creating little spaces for themselves to feel like sentient beings for once. The clones were raised to fight a war, competence and order were drilled into their minds from the time they stepped out of their tubes. Cody had religiously clung to those regulations, needing a semblance of order amid a chaotic galaxy that they had just stepped into to fight a war on the Republic’s behalf. But at the end of the day, they were all individuals, regardless of the Kaminoian’s attempts at stamping it out or not. Cody had to face the fact that one day he would need to find his own sense of self outside of the GAR’s and Kaminoian’s restrictions.

“My name is Cody.” He announced. “I have spent many years serving the Galactic Army of the Republic as Marshal Commander of the 7th Sky Corps and I have spent my whole life as property of the Jedi. I am not here to fight you, I am here to collect the bounty on High General and Jedi Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi.”
Obi-Wan pulled away from his grip once more, yanked out of it really, and so Cody shoved him harder, causing the General to stumble but not fall. He felt guilty but didn’t let it show, they had to make this look real. The Commander didn’t have time to feel guilty then, he had to focus on giving a convincing performance.

OR: following Obi-Wan and Quinlan’s fight with Cad Bane, Cody and the two Jedi come up with the genius plan for the Commander to hand Obi-Wan over to the separatists in exchange for credits, only for Quinlan to make a daring rescue! … it doesn’t go quite as well as they planned.

Summary
Cody is totally normal about his Jedi. He is.
Except when it comes to his tradition of buying a new tea for Obi-wan after each successful campaign. That’s something Cody won’t sacrifice for anything.
Without credits though, Cody is forced to slowly trade away his possessions to pay for Obi-wan’s gift teas, and the other clones start to think it’s strange how their commander is consistently requesting new comm links and throwing daggers for his ‘missing’ ones.
Obi-wan, of course, is oblivious to the whole thing—until he isn’t.

“I’m CC-2224,” Cody responded automatically.
General Kenobi’s face scrunched up at Cody’s words and Cody wondered if the man knew that despite him not being able to see them, they could still see him. Normally the natborns were a little less obvious in their distaste.
“That’s not much of a name,” General Kenobi said, instead of anything that Cody had been expecting him to say, “I don’t suppose you’ve got a nickname that you’d allow me to use? It’s a little strange to think of referring to a person as a string of numbers.”
The 212th has never met anyone quite like General Kenobi.
Fresh off of Kamino and already jaded by the natborns that they've encountered, their world turns upside down when they met Obi-Wan Kenobi, a blind man who still seems to see more than anyone else they've ever met. As Obi-Wan shows them how to open up and live in a world that is offended by their mere presence, the 212th learns just how far they would go to save their general and how mutual the feeling is.

Kote tipped his head and just stared into Rex’s eyes endlessly, the way he did when people asked him questions that made him want to swallow them whole with their own ignorance.
“No way of knowing without intrusive measures,” he determined.
“We gotta ask one,” Bly translated for Rex.
(The troopers make a discovery of the fiscal variety, which causes them to realize that they may have more in common with the jedi than they previously thought.)
