The urge to cradle his face in his hands, and press kind words into his skin, is stronger than any ounce of annoyance he could ever muster for Buck.
He thinks it’s why he’s so miserable about it all. Buck deserves nothing but the best, and Eddie has never been the best.

Buck would have noticed. Eddie should have noticed.

Summary
Eddie wakes up with someone’s arms wrapped around him. Which is very concerning because he went to bed alone last night, like he’s done every night for over a year now.
He scrambles out of the bed, completely ungracefully, landing flat on his ass in a room that is unmistakably not his own. His heart hammers in his chest as he tries to make sense of it all in his just woken state. He peers over the mattress, to the person that was holding him, and he’s pretty sure his heart gives out all together.
“Maddie?”
She yawns from the bed, not opening her eyes, curling further into the pillow. “It’s too early, Howie, the alarm hasn’t gone off yet.”

After a pause, Eddie asked, “You ever think about just… keeping it going?”
Buck blinked. “What, like living together forever?”
A snort filled the air, and Eddie looked half amused and half serious. “I dunno, maybe? Something like that. I mean, look, it’s a new year, right? Anything could happen. But neither of us wanna be alone forever. So, maybe if we’re both still single in a year or whatever, we could just—” he waved a hand vaguely, like he was lassoing the future— ”make it official.”
“Official?” he echoed, head even fuzzier now.
Eddie’s mouth twitched. “Yeah, we could just get married, or something close enough to it."
Buck’s heart tripped over itself.
On New Year's Eve, Buck and Eddie made a drunken pact: if they were both still single in a year, they'd marry each other. They didn't mean to start sabotaging the other's love life to make it happen, but somewhere along the way, that's exactly what they ended up doing.
Now the only question is... how far are they willing to take it?

“You didn’t tell me your agent’s name was Dick,” Eddie says, halfway to a laugh.
Buck tries to force a smile onto his face, but it won’t come. “Yeah, he didn’t mention that before. Apparently, that was info he only wanted to share with you.”
“Oh, weird,” Eddie says, like it’s not worth thinking about. “Still funny, though.”
“Hilarious,” Buck says as he pulls into the street and Eddie types in the next address.

“-and, well, Eddie came out a couple weeks ago. He’s uh, he’s bi too.” Buck fills Taylor in on everything that has happened since they’d spoken last. The 118 were all out at a bar, celebrating a big win today. They’d rescued a school bus full of children before the bus tumbled down a cliff. A familiar flash of red hair and a whiff of a rich almond perfume had caught Buck’s attention about ten minutes ago and that led him here, sitting at a table, catching up with none other than Taylor Kelly.
“Oh, I know you must have been happy about that,” Taylor responds over the rim of her martini glass before taking a sip..
