Mike’s stomach twisted. He felt like he was listening to something he wasn’t allowed to hear. Like Will was pulling back a curtain Mike had spent years nailing into place.
When Will said it, I’m gay- Mike’s chest seized so violently he thought, for one horrifying second, that he might cry.
Not because he was surprised.
Because something inside him answered back.
His first instinct was denial. A sharp, panicked recoil.
No. Absolutely not.
He swallowed hard, jaw tightening until it hurt. This wasn’t about him. It couldn’t be. He wasn’t allowed to make it about himself.
But his mind betrayed him anyway.
The way Will’s shoulder fit too easily against his.
The way Mike always noticed when Will laughed, soft and rare.
The way his chest went tight and wrong whenever Will looked at him like he mattered more than anyone else in the room.

Summary
Takes place during the season 5 finale when they get out of the Upside Down but then is a massive AU from there.
Around him the world started to collapse. Steve tried to move but found himself grounded to the spot. Had Venca not died? Was he now trapped in some freakish mind maze? Frantically Steve looked around for the rest of their team. They were all desperately trying to get to each other, Hopper was yelling at El to run. Dustin was reaching for Steve but was stuck fast too. Steve cried out to his best friend but it made no difference.
“EL!” Mike’s scream echoed strangely in the mist world. All eyes once again landed on El. Her serene face was confused as she watched the world around them all rapidly fade.
“Mike?” Her voice was soft. She reached out an arm towards him.
The floor vanished from their feet and Steve was suddenly plummeting into nothing. Darkness swallowed his vision and silence dominated his ears. He couldn’t even hear his own scream of terror.

Hawkins, Indiana.For a moment, their heads lingered close, only an inch of space dividing them, and Mike’s breath bounced off Will’s neck as his eyes lined up with his lips, the mole just above them fluttering as Will’s mouth parted slightly. It was fine. For the first time in ages, Mike’s life seemed to be on an upward trajectory instead of plummeting downwards. College had, in some way, fixed things. Fixed Mike. He didn’t even feel the need to dissect what exactly had made his early teenage years so horrifying.
But like a curse, it’s all come back.
