It took less time to process than Ronan expected. Or more. Seconds were blurring and signals crossing; once he'd hit the second bottle of cheap, convenience store vodka, things began to blend. Meld. All shit, jet-fuel alcohol sugars. Adam's face stilled, like the halting of facial procedures helped him compute information faster.
“And that…” Adam swallowed. “That was… inspiring for you?”
“Listen to the song and tell me how inspiring it is.” Ronan wiggled the device, again. “Come on. Most guys are flattered by this shit.”
“You wrote a song about me?”
“I write a lot of songs about you.” Ronan blinked, twice.

Adam’s head snapped up like someone had just grabbed his hair and yanked, “What?”
Gansey’s trying not to look guilty face might have fooled someone who didn’t know him, but Adam had seen that look on his face so often that it was practically seared into his retinas, “I just mentioned -”
“You told him?” Adam hissed, hand involuntarily clenching at the edge of the table, “Pretty sure this is a need to know situation, Gans.”
“He’s Ronan.” Gansey said, like that explained everything, which -
Of course it explained everything. He was Ronan, tall and sleek and handsome, dangerous and beautiful like a chrome gun catching the sun as it was pressed to someone’s forehead. Ronan was Gansey’s worse half, his brother in arms, his platonic soulmate. Of course Gansey would tell him everything.

Ronan winced, “I was hoping the house would knock it off before you noticed.”

It wasn’t ever supposed to be Declan; that was just an unhappy mistake. Ronan had called Maura and Calla, initially, and they agreed to watch Opal while Adam toured Harvard and Ronan accompanied him. But then one of the pipes at Fox Way burst, and Maura told Ronan that it didn’t matter if Opal was housebroken, they had bigger things to worry about.
Then Gansey, who was normally so reliable as a backup, was called back to D.C. and he apologized but he absolutely had to go, because after the disaster on the day of the demon, he owed his mom. Henry Cheng was right out, because as far as Ronan could gather, Henry Cheng couldn’t feed himself and got kidnapped while wearing boxers, and the most responsible thing about him was a non-sentient bee.
He was about to cancel, with all apologies to Adam, when Adam called Declan and Declan talked to Adam and the next thing Ronan knew, his brother was coming to the Barns.

Ronan would even say he looks a little impressed, though it’s less in a ‘I-am-totally-charmed-by-your-desperate-attempt-to-get-my-number’ way and more in a ‘I-can’t-believe-you-have-the-nerve-to-say-this’ way. “Did you just make a pass at me after I found you passed out drunk in my bed in my shirt that you stole from my closet?”

Ronan was leaning against the bar, cheeks rose-colored, holding back a smile. He was talking to an American boy, one Niall had first served before he switched over to handle the rowdy lot that came in after him. The kid had to have been around Ronan’s age, young and bright-eyed like a man who still had dreams for the future. He was tan with sandy, dusty colored hair, and a matching smile as he spoke back.
“Jesus, would you look at that,” Niall whistled low to Declan, who was wiping up the bar beside him. “Ronan’s found himself an American.”
