He hears one, maybe two steps, and then a large thud. He immediately frowns and whips around.
“Newton?” he asks as he turns, and it takes him a minute to comprehend and process Newton on the ground, twitching and making small, panicked noises, as if he were an injured animal. “Newton! By Jove, have you fallen? What on earth have you tripped on?”

Summary
Hermann immediately knew something was off when he walked into his and Newton’s shared apartment, and it was nothing if not empty and quiet. It made his ears ring and hollow out at the exact same time, his skin prickling and dialing up every single one of his senses, suddenly in panic mode and suspicion and worry flailing upwards in unison. Newton was not quiet. He was not a quiet person. He barely knew how to whisper, and he carried his personality with loudness that rivaled Big Ben. Even his tattoos–no longer Kaiju themed but swapped to other nature-related things and constellations and stars, which Newton had taken up studying lately–were loud. So, naturally, Hermann’s Newton-sized started blaring in his head.

Newton’s jaw clenches. While it was true that Hermann had fought tooth and nail to have Newton released from the rather uncomfortable chair-trap room back at the Shatterdome that Pentecost had shoved him in after disgracefully knocking him out cold on top of the roof (although he does suppose he wasn’t shot on sight, considering that was the command Shao gave out), it didn’t mean he had to be happy about staying in the absolute tornado that Hermann claimed was his home.
Pfft. As if he could ever live in these conditions.

I'm starting to miss working out in the field. Hermann is, of course, working away with his laptop and chalkboard, but it’s started to scratch up from being overused and overworked and his laptop doesn’t work without being plugged up anymore. We put in a request for new equipment not long ago, but even when we did, we knew it would take a while because getting supplies to us has to happen under the radar. We’re lucky to be alive and free now, and not locked up and rotting in prison, or even on death row or killed by this point.

Tony should have listened to Peter. Should have listened when he started asking the Strange Things and sticking next to his dad whenever he could.
Peter, when he was six, asked Tony a question he’d just shrugged off as a ‘monster in the closet’ type question. And the worst part was that after he tucked him in, he was going back to doing paperwork to move Pepper into his position so he could step down.
He’d been so focused on Peter that he hadn’t paid attention to Peter.
