Summary
Eric Bittle never thought he'd ever leave his small town where he was born, raised, and learned the intricacies of the magic within him. Setting off into the stars at midnight, as tradition dictates, he sets off to a new land to carve a place in this world for himself and his magic. Along the way, he meets a band of pilots preparing for war he dreams will never come, and is particularly annoyed and enamored by their leader, Captain Jack Zimmermann.

The painting itself was unusual. Lardo’s palette, full of sepia, creams, and grey, gave it the air of an old photograph; photorealism, Bitty thought. She’d even given one corner a slightly bent, torn look, to convey that idea of it being an overly large, slightly worn picture. The figure stood, skated feet together, hockey stick in held hands across his waist, facing forward. He had short, dark hair and chiseled features. His face stern, but proud, uplifted chin, conveying he would be a force on the ice although the hooded eyes held a hint of something, humour mixed with sadness.

Not everyone has magic, and not all magics are particularly useful, but some people wake up on their seventh birthday with abilities. Eric Bittle wakes up, seven years old, to realize that he is blind. Instead of seeing the world around him when he opens his eyes he sees the future, in all it's possibilities.
Jack Zimmermann can never escape the past. He sees things that happened years ago as vivid as his real life.
The rest of the Samwell Gang all has Magic too! And they all figure out how to live life around magic.
I've come back to look at this fic and realized that it is as finished as it will ever be. Perhaps someday there will be other works connected to it, but I wouldn't count on it. Sorry it didn't get longer y'all, real life has been kicking my ass up and down the stairs for the past year or so

Jack is still mostly on one side of the bed, which is a relief to Bitty because it definitely improves his odds of getting in without waking Jack or prompting him to steal the covers, but Jack stirs a bit when he feels the other side of the bed dip slightly under Bitty’s weight. Bitty freezes halfway on, not because he thinks Jack will wake, but because he turns to face the window, the one Bitty is currently silhouetted in front of with his hair a faint golden halo in the dim light, and cracks one eye open the way mostly-asleep people do, and says a few muzzy words before dropping off again, still. No longer restless.
What Jack says, sleep-fogged but still distinct, is this:
“Stay, Kenny.”
