Summary

See, Most people couldn’t remember the exact moment their life went downhill. For some, it was a steady decline. So gradual that they couldn’t pinpoint how exactly they had gotten so low.
But Eddie remembered very well. It was like a bucket of cold water, a rude awakening. It wasn’t a seamless transition or a steady decline, it was a plummet to the depths of hell.
The Duffer brothers didn't give Eddie a backstory so I did it myself.

It had been a slow day, the usual morning rush being more like a morning lull, when the sound of the bell above the door caught Eddie’s attention. He had stood up straight, his back cracking due to his previously hunched-over-his-phone position he’d been in the last thirty minutes. The guy approaching the counter was wearing sunglasses - Ray Bans, typical - and didn’t lift them off his face until he got to the counter, where he took them off, a warm smile greeting Eddie.
Steve Harrington. Eddie was face-to-face with Steve fucking Harrington.

Summary
After the Demodogs are defeated Steve is left with a support system consisting of a couple 12 year olds and a baseball bat. He officially decided that in a world where superheroes were manufactured in Hawkins Indiana, school was no longer a priority. Necessitating Steve Harrington’s 2nd attempt at Senior year. Thankfully, this year he’d have Robin… and Dustin… and maybe Nancy… hopefully. But you never really knew what could happen in Hawkins Indiana.
Eddie needed to graduate this year. If he flunked again he was toast and he knew it. There would be no repeating his Senior year a fourth time, that couldn’t happen. He just needed to survive English with Ms. O’ Donalls and he’d be golden. Now, thinking about passing Ms. O’ Donalls class and actually passing were two very different things. If he could avoid any unnecessary distractions he was sure he could at least pass with a D.
Or, Steve meets Eddie during his second attempt at Senior year and that changes some things.

Summary
Eddie Munson is not an idiot.
Steve Harrington understood this fact when he met the kid halfway through the fifth grade, despite Eddie being a year younger than the rest of the class.
Munson had a motor mouth that was always split into a far-away grin and these huge eyes that shined like the stars lived in them. When Steve, young and full of pre-teen animosity, asked him where the hell he had come from, Munson had turned that wilded-out expression toward him to explain that he, in one fell swoop, half of fourth and half of fifth grade.

“Fuck yeah,” Eddie said before he could stop himself. His face got hot. Shit, that sounded way too eager, a totally excessive level of enthusiasm just for meeting another gay metalhead. He had given himself away as a clueless virgin, and Nick was going to stop smiling, walk away, and find someone with the ability to maintain his cool for the length of half a conversation.
But Nick didn’t stop smiling. Instead he said, “I know you just got a drink, but do you want to get out of here?”

Eddie Munson's known he's gay for years. This is a fact that he's accepted; a fact he's fine with. That being said, he never thought he'd fall in love, especially in Hawkins, Indiana. Add a floppy haired, former jerk turned goodhearted jock into the picture and things can change. It'll just take Eddie some to realize this.
